I need to force Outlook 2007 and 2010 clients to use a shared XML file for autodiscover settings. I was reading over this article for the necessary registry keys and steps: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc837949(office.12).aspx In this article, it shows the registry key to set up for the local XML path as this: Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover DWORD: fourthcoffee.com Registry type: REG_DWORD Data: \\server1\share\autodiscover.xml However, this registry key CANNOT be a dword, and contain a string value. My question is for the MS people or anyone that has deployed this, what type of registry key does this need t…

Other contacts can be modified with no problem. We just updated from 2007 to 2010 BCM. Is there a problem on the database setup part? Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Continue reading...

By Paul Thurrott Consumer electronics giant Apple on Tuesday proved that it was still the master of its domain, posting a net profit of $6 billion on record revenue of $46.3 billion for the most recent quarter, with an astonishing gross margin of almost 45 percent. And while analysts tend to understate their estimates for Apple’s earnings, these numbers speak for themselves: Apple simply had an unprecedented, blockbuster quarter. Continue reading...

Pretty sure my system has many "rogue" issues but no scan or any manufacture picks up a single cookie! What do I do? Here is a little back ground. I worked for a major company that had numerous Trojans, Malware & botnets hidden within the network for at least 8 months. Many of the issues crossed over to my personal computers since I would access my Outlook email from home or other work related sites. Our computer has been reformatted & reloaded to wipe out issues that were never identified yet strange issues still occur. IE: Media extender notifications appear in my task bar yet we don't have any extenders. Automatic updating is on yet we never have any updates bu…

I am attempting to load MS Office 2010 on XP SP3. I keep getting the following error: 'Error 1402. Setup cannot open registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_OBJECT_CASHING. Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft PSS for assistance.' I have tried a 'Clean Boot', 'System Restore' and I have run 'MS Fixit' which found and fixed some corrupt Registry keys but still no go. I have located the above registry key with regedit.exe but I am unsure if I should modify, it or how to modify it. Any assistance would be appreciated. Continue reading...

So I want to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my HP computer to a new SSD I have just purchased. When I try to use the recovery disk, it says the hard drive installed is not the original one shipped with a computer, so I can't continue. I have a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and was wondering if I could use the serial on the HP computer to install Windows? The computer shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. How do I get WIN7 to work without leaving the WIN7 CD in my PC 24x7? I Started having some issues with WIN7 two weeks ago after a "restore"so I popped the WIN7 CD in and ran the closest thing to 'repair'. The problem now is that the WIN7 program only boots properly if I leave the MS WIN7 CD in the drive! It also failed to take a recent WIN update. Also it shows two boot options now WINDOWS and WIN7?!? I ran the MGA diagnostic tool which is below: Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0): ----------------------------------------- Windows Validation Data--> Validation Code: 0 Cached Online Validation Code: 0x0 Windows Product Key: *****-*****-22PF7-974MT-Y6B98 Wi…

Started to have issues with my computer due to a driver (most probably). Decided to clean reinstall Win 7 but the installation was aborted unexpectedly. Tried again and: Using the Win 7 dvd, it won't let me boot. Error: "Missing Boot Manager" Using Win 7 on usb drive, I'm able to start the installation process until I get the error: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition." I get the same error even if I use diskpart to create a 100MB system partition and a 40GB Win 7 partition. Purchased an HP Pavillion Elite PC w/Intel Core i7 2.8Ghz 64 bit processor and Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I purchased an anytime upgrade licence from a retail store to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. Anytime upgrade starts, takes the product key, and then appears to start the upgrade with the message that the upgrade could take as few as ten minutes. After about 2 minutes, a window pops up and states that it cannot complete the upgrade but gives no further information. Now what? HP is supposed to support the OEM installation of Windows 7 on the PC, but now I am upgrading to a store bought license key. Who do I call, or does someone know of a work-around? Cont…

My company is instituting a new Device Security Policy and intends to support a limited number of smartphone operating systems. The Windows phone will not be one of the devices supported. One of the challenges presented by mobile devices is ensuring that the security of information contained on them is maintained as it would on any other company computer or communications device. Beginning April 1st, 2012 policy enforcement will be activated on the email system that will require your device to meet the security requirements below. Your device may prompt you with a warning that company Exchange is attempting to change your device security settings. It is important for you…
