“Unfortunately, Skype Lite – a version of Skype…We felt that Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones were not offering the best possible Skype experience” This is only an excuse and pretty poor excuse for that. I would like to know, to ask. If even now, when Skype is part of Microsoft, do you still going to ignore your own customers? Would you refuse to create a Windows mobile/phone version to users that bought such a device? Does Microsoft admit that its own Windows Phone, are inferior to iPhone and Android? Is it above Microsoft abilities, to create a mobile version that will work well on its own mobile OS? I would like to know if it is a Microsoft policy to serve…

My state college has the students purchase their own hard drives and then slide them into the computer in the rooms covering technical classes like MS Server and Cisco Routing. We had been loading the drives with XP but recently switched to Win7 Pro. The trouble happens when someone has technical classes in two or more rooms in the same semester. He slips the drive into the computer in room 200 and it grabs the hardware profile. He then has a class in room 250 and it sees a new NIC and/or video card and wants to activate again. Is there a way around this for an education environment or should we revert back to win-xp? Continue reading...

I have an NTFS partition that had a lot of JPG and some AVI files from my camera and I recently decided to defragment it. When the process was finished, a notification came up stating that one or more files could not be defragmented. The name of the file was simply ".", excluding quotes. It was in the root directory and was 200k in size and had 25 fragments. I elected to reformat the drive to be on the safe side and haven't tried to defrag again to see what might come up. My question is what process(es) could I have used to have better investigated what this file was? Would MSE even have been able to see or read this file? I guess if I would have booted up with a Live-CD…

I installed Windows 7 enterprise on one PC(clean install), and there is only one partition(no 100MB partition). After running sysprep, I grabbed the image with ImageX. But when I applied this image to the other PC, it didn't boot into windows. I got this error instead "NTLDR is missing". So I have to boot with Win 7 repair disk and have to fix mbr (using bootsect in command prompt) every time. Is there any way to solve this problem? Continue reading...

I recently had to reformat my HP Elitebook 8530P, win xp sp3, Intel Core 2 duo. Everything is functioning fine except the sound. No sound from internal or external. I have exhausted all the HP website support software and drivers. I updated all drivers, Bios and chipset as well as MS UAA. Device mgr. indicates that all device drivers are working with no problems. I have a .xps document but I don't see a way to attach it. I'm hoping that you can suggest something other than reinstalling everything. Let me know if there is another way to send the .xps attachment. Thanks, Al Weeks Continue reading...

Does the hotfix entitled A "Set Network Location" dialog box appears when you first log on to a domain-joined Windows 7-based client computer (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028749) still apply to Windows 7 SP1? The article doesn't specify which version(s) it applies to. I noticed this problem when building RTM images, but I just now discovered the hotfix. I'm now working on making SP1 images, but I don't want to apply the hotfix if it's already integrated. Continue reading...

Where has the 'recent pages' arrow gone from the new Windows Explorer 9. I= inadvertently upgraded on my home computer and am finding it incredibly fr= ustrating that it has been taken away and do not want to upgrade my work co= mputer until it is put back. Using the 'back pages' arrows does not necess= arily have the same effect because sometimes you get 'locked in' to a web p= age and have to open up a whole new window and start all over again. With = the 'recent pages' arrow, you could just scroll down to the page you wanted= to go back to. Please, please, bring it back. Tracy Tyson tracy.tyson@btinternet.com Continue reading...
