I just upgraded my computer to 4GB of RAM from 2GB. I replaced the old memory with a matched pair of Corsair 2GB modules. I wanted to just add 4GB to the existing 2GB but had heard that it wouldn't even boot up with 6GB. my 4Gig shows up in CMOS but in windows it just shows as 3.25GB. Is this normal or do I have to do something to make Windows XP Professional recognize all of my RAM? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Continue reading...

I have a PC running windows xp pro, but it was a donated unit for our Senior Citizens Center, so there are no discs available. It shows the error message that I may be running pirated software. I can buy XP Pro upgrade discs at Techsoup.org so I have the correct licenses available, but can I install the upgrade OS without any of the existing OS's discs on hand? Continue reading...

Ok, so I backed up all my files to a extended logical partition (B:/) which I created. Then I re-installed my Windows 7 OS under the impression that it would only re-format the partition where the OS is installed (C:/) but after doing that I found out that it re-formatted my ENTIRE hard drive and the logical partition (B:/) is no longer there! I had backed up my computer using Windows 7 backup tool and saved it in that logical partition (B:/), is there any way to recover that backup??? Continue reading...

Need quick help on this. We have investigated this to the most extent from our end. We have a Credential provider that loads a HTML page for user input during logon. If IE9 is installed on the system and on the first time after reboot the HTML page takes up 10-12 secs just to load. The time lag between OnInitDialog and OnDocumentComplete is somewhere between 10-12 seconds. The delay varies from system to system and one of our customer systems, it in fact takes about 30+ seconds. The delay is only on the first time launch which unfortunately happens at logon time for us (CredProv). We could easily reproduce this issue using Microsoft's sample CredProv code and by custom…

I am seeing something very strange happen. I am dealing with 500 new NCR Point of sale devices, running a Windows XP SP3 OS. Everytime I make any change to the registry and reboot the machine, it hangs at "Saving your settings". I am doing this both as local admin and domain admin on the machine. The problem is, I have to hit the power switch and power the machine down. Then power it up. When the machine comes back up, the changes aren't present in the registry - because apparently they were not saved. Have you seen this before? Any idea what could be causing this? When using the email page button in OneNote it defaults all of my custom tag colors to black. I customized my Risk Tag to change the font to red - this works great in onenote, but when I click on email page it changed the font to black in the email message. I love MSE, but ever since I installed it, Windows Defender won't launch. I get a dialog box that says: "Windows Defender is turned off." It provides a link: "Turn on and open Windows Defender." When I click that link, I get another message that says: "Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this program's service to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a service manually." Help told me to try placing the Defender Icon in the Startup folder, but I still get the two messages previously mentioned. Does MSE turn off Defender? Can the two run concurrently? Hola: He instalado hace poco una impresora HP multifuncional. Desde que la hemos instalado el antivirus ha dejado de funcionar, no sé que hacer porque lo compré hace dos meses con validez para un año, para tener mi equipo protegido. Por más que intento volverlo a instalar, aparentemente se instala, se reinicia el ordenador sólo y luego voy al antivirus y aparece con el aspa advirtiéndome que mi equipo no está protegido. 1) reinstalled MIME in OWA Tools 2) OWA web in Trusted Website 3) Active X is allowed In OWA, I can address and type the message, upon clicking the "send" buton I recieve the "Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working" dialog box. The recipient receives the message fine. All other workstations work correctly, I can logon to another workstation and OWA works fine. The event viewer displays the offender as mshtml.dll to IE8. I got tired of trying to fix it, so I purchased another copy of windows 7 home premium and reformatted the hard drive. Naturally, I forgot to save the emails. I want to learn/create a differencing disks natively for my main OS. I already installed my OS in the native VHD. Now i want to be pointed in the right direction on how to create a differencing disk. I need to know how to write lock my parent vhd then add my child vhd. How do i do that? I did read from another post before this but did not answer but lead to another related question.
