I am running MDT 2010, using Lite Touch deployment for Win7 SP1 clients. Have 20 linked deployment shares. My WIM image is about 6 GB. I'm getting requests to update single files, which I think would require me to mount the WIM, update, then re-copy. My question is, is there a way to accomplish this without modifying the image file? I don't see anything available in the task sequence options to do a simple file copy. Second question, is there a method that people use that would apply a smaller wim file with updates. I am new to using these tools for deployment. To give an example as what I would like to do, if its possible: The tool we used to do for imaging gave…

Hello, my computer has been dead for the last few days so to speak. For two days ago I turned on my computer - it started up just like any other day. I saw the Desktop and bang, blue screen of death. This has not happened since I installed Windows on my new SSD Harddisk (I'm running with two disks, one SSD for Windows and a HDD for everything else), so I simply started my computer again. (My computer worked just fine last weekend, no problems at all. I had a Windows Update and then this happened..). During the set-up it stopped after the Motherboard-image - I had to chose between starting Windows Normal or repair it. Starting Windows normally does not help - it just g…

Hello Am working with a small client, less than 25 workstations. We are migrating them to Windows 7 and Office 2010 virtual desktops, brokered by XenDesktop 5. Our design goal is to have the Windows 7 gold image streamed to the virtual desktops via Citrix Provisioning services. Users access desktops from a non-persistent pool via Wyse Xenith thin clients. AppSense Environment Manager is handling user personalization. My question pertains to how best to work with automated Microsoft license activation with the small numbers (

I run Windows pro 64 bit on a brand new Sony Vaio S series. Downloaded the Pro MS Office package from microsoft last week, can't open any word or excel doc without it crashing (the app). Not so helpful, looking for a fix!! If only the windows message boards were as good and proactive as Apple. when I post on the Apple message boards one of the dang product managers writes email to me. So frustrating, especially as I purchased the Sony over the Mac. ARgggggh. Continue reading...

I'm using OCT to create an Office 2010 package and I need to include a 3rd party Outlook add-in as part of the deployment. The Outlook add-in installs via .MSI file. I've copied Office and the add-in .MSI files into a shared network folder (\\server\share). In OCT, I've configured the add-in to run after Office installation has completed by going under Setup > Add installations and run programs > Target: \\server\share\addin.msi Arguments: /quiet (Run this program after the Office product has been installed). So in OCT it shows Command lines: "\\server\share\addin.msi" /quiet Office installs just fine but the add-in does not install. I don't see any p…

I believe I've found a bug in the RTM version of the WAIK for Windows 7 or maybe someone can explain to me what I'm doing wrong. I had the RC version of Windows 7 and the RTM version of the WAIK and kept getting "The system cannot find the path specified." when trying to add a package to WinPE. Thinking it was a mismatch between the RC and the RTM versions, I formatted my work PC, installed the RTM version of Windows 7 Enterprise and the RTM version of the WAIK. Again, I ran into the same issue. However, once I converted the name of the CAB files to be all lowercase, then it works?! See below...only thing that is different between the two command lines is the cas…

MSE recognizes a virus called: Win32/Bamital.H, yet it won't delete it cause of an error that says: "Error Code 0x800704ec. Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy." I do not live in the US, nor do I have a phone. In the support section, where can I send an e-mail to fix this, or even better, somebody can explain me here how to remove the virus? Thnx. p.s.: I have no idea what Beta means. Continue reading...
