Hi, I'm using a Windows XP SP3 workstation. When I want to resolve some machine name with nslookup, the system doesn't append the connection-specific DNS suffix. We are in an Active Directory domain. The Primary DNS suffix of my workstation is : fra.net.intra The connection-specific DNS suffix is : fr.net.intra In the DNS properties of the connection : The "Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes" is selected. And the check box "Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix" is also checked. So, with this DNS configuration, my DNS Suffix Search List is : fra.net.intra fr.net.intra net.intra And each time I try a DNS lookup search, on…

Hello, -As we know, mainstream support phase for Windows Vista (with SP2) will ends on this upcoming 10th April 2012, and Microsoft stated that the succeeding 5-year extended support phase will only covers Business and Enterprise (commercial) editions. This means after that date, Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista (consumer editions) - be it retail or OEM - will no longer receive any new patches/updates. -Here I'm asking a few related questions at Microsoft, and I hope you would give a proper answers: 1. Will the consumer editions of Windows Vista be definitely cut-off from any NEW patches/updates? 2. Will the consumer ed…

Been bounced around a bit from other forums. I have been experiencing a problem in my call center. My users are running IE9 using Performance Edge via the web on a Windows 7 32bit box. Last week everyone received a security drop down banner (below address bar) stating that they were at risk, click her to fix etc. Clicking yes to fix resulted is lost functionality and their home page was changed to MSN. I believe the permissions were change because when they access an audio file online, they either get a "media player not installed" or a ".net framework 2.0 required" popup. We have tried multiple setting changes but the only sure fix was to roll everyone back to IE8 which…

Hello, we have some Windows CE devices (these are not mobile phones) which need Windows Mobile Device Center to synchronze some data between Windows 7 and these devices. Therefore I've downloaded the current Windows Mobile Device Center version 6.1.6965 for Windows Vista/7 64 Bit. Now the problems starts: The software can't be installed without connecting the Windows CE device to the computer. After the Windows CE device has been connected, it seems that the software is installed, there are shortcuts within the Start Menu, but when I want to open the Windows Mobile Device Center, the computer does ... nothing. Even the synchronization software of the Windows CE d…

When Windows 7 Came out I bought an upgrade version to upgrade from XP. Im currently running it on my machine now, but purchased a new SSD id like to be my primary boot drive. I'd like to leave my old SATA drive in the computer as a backup as well as keeping some old files on it, but like I said, I would like the SSD to be my boot drive and primary storage. What are my options going to be to install windows 7 on the SSD? Id rather not install XP again first (If i can even find the box it came in) Can I use system imaging and backup 7 then restore it on the new drive? I just want to get a clean instal of 7 on the SSD. Thanks for any help Continue reading...

Hi guys! I have a system that is WIN 7 32bit EN and 6GB DDR2 memory banks, but WIN 32bit only recognise 3,24 GB as usable memory. I intend to upgrade to WIN 7 64bit EN (I got the original software and Key already) to be able to use more memory than the 3,24 GB. Is it possible to make an upgrade to Win 7 64bit from Win 7 32 bit, I mean I don't want to make a new and fresh instalation, what I need is an upgrade, is it possible? Something like inserting the 64bit DVD on the drive and chosing upgrade. BTW I have plenty of stuff on the 32bit PC, like Office 2010 32bit, and some virtual machines, does it matter? My PC is a core 4 Quad 64bit. Every answer is very welcome.…

I am currently creating my own custom version of Windows 7, and I noticed something that bothered me... When using the following command: Dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:%install.wim_directory% I noticed it showed four indices (images, editions, versions): Index 1. Windows 7 Home Basic Index 2. Windows 7 Home Premium Index 3. Windows 7 Professional Index 4. Windows 7 Ultimate I was wondering if there was a way to permanently delete those images and keep only the Windows 7 Ultimate index. I realize there is a /Get-StagedEditions and a /Remove-StagedEdition command that can remove certain editions from a mounted image, however, the former /Get comm…

I have a problem with pop email on win. mobile 6.5. It (outlook)seems to be taking up phone memory rather than micro card memory. For the life of me, I can't seem to be able to reconfigure it so that it stores on the storage card and not phone memory. It's now malfunctioning as phone memory is reaching peak utilisation. Can anyone instruct me as to how I can get this reconfigured so that mails are held in a folder on the storage card??? Continue reading...

By Paul Thurrott There’s been a lot of silliness and angst about Windows 8 supposedly dropping the Start button, the first time this central user interface has been absent from Windows since its debut in 1995. There’s just one problem: The Start button isn’t going anywhere. In fact, it’s being made more prominent than ever in Windows 8. Continue reading...

Hello, we are using an environment with some Windows 2008 R2 terminal servers. On the terminal servers we are providing Microsoft Office 2010 for our users. The settings management we're solving over group policies and AppSense. Now my question: Is it possilbe to create a network share for example "\\ourserver\addins\controlling", copy there the nessecary Addins for the controlling-department and let them adding automatically into our Excel- or Word-applications? Currently we are making this manually with the registry HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options\OPEN = "\\ourserver\addins\controlling\XYAddin.xlam". Is there a way to automate this? Bes…

Original Title: We can't get the updates to load on my mom's computer! I downloaded the Microsoft Security Essentials without much of a problem to my mother's Compaq computer which runs on Vista, I believe, (unless it's XP)and she also has dial-up AOL service. After it was loaded, I was told that updates were needed and the Internet needed to remain on in order to do so. The program has yet to complete loading any updates and freezes up about half way through, or we get a message saying that the computer needs to be running the Internet which it already is. We have tried several times and after running for a few hours each time-not good because the phone is tied up!-no…
