Man in The Middle (How to check IE is "Clean")
by Guest jmone- 0 replies
Background: We have had a successful Man in the Middle attack during an internet banking session over IE9 where the amount of a transfer and the payee were modified (thankfully the bank’s fraud squad picked this up and we are going through the reimbursement process). We use Trend Micro and a few days prior to the “Man in the Middle” incident it found and cleaned a Trojan called TROJ_SPNR.03CG11 / Trojan-Banker.Win32.Banker.bayq Banks Advice: Their advice is that we should do a clean install on Win7 on all PC’s that we would do internet banking from and not trust the Virus Scanners or other tools to remove the “Man in the Middle” infection in IE. They also indicated t…

by Guest 007hughes- 0 replies

I installed IE9 and after that all it would give me is "page cannot be displayed." I tried every fix I could find in this forum, and nothing helped. I am having to use another computer to ask this question. I verified that I am on the wireless network, but the stupid program doesn't work correctly. I am currently attempting a system restore so I can get my PC back to its original state before the stupid update. Any clues from anyone? Continue reading...

The MSE window opens automatically every time I download anything. Can I stop this? 2nd Ask
by Guest amc1948- 0 replies
I asked this question, and got a suggestion to un-install & reinstall. Which I have done -- and the issue persists: The MSE window opens automatically every time I download anything. Can I stop this? Why does the window always open? Can I stop it from opening? The open window has the "Scan Now" button--but I assume that, because of my settings, the scan of download occurs automatically, so I don't need to do anything--but close the window. Am I missing something? Is there a way to stop the nuisance of the window always opening? My settings: Vista Home Premium: 2 Internal SATA drives, 3 External drives - Daily Quick scan, check for updates before scan. - …

Any time I try to run a downloaded file (such as getting a new printer driver or trying to run a scan) I get a message which says, "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." I am running Windows 7. I have Norton 360 running. I have scanned with it and used the Norton bootable scan to no avail. Running Windows 7 Cannot install or run any downloads. (I can down load files it appears. Also cannot unistall programs through the Control Panel. Cannot enable or disable any services in Task Manager. Cannot run the Microsoft on-line scan. After about three hours, Norton support gave up. Continue …

Ie 9 and Win 7 64, can't make some links (looks like Java links) on web pages work
by Guest douglas hugh- 0 replies
I Am using IE 9 on a Windows 7 64 bit platform. The 32-bit version of IE 9 has stopped allowing certain webpage links to work properly. In one case I noticed these were Java-based links. The 64-bit version of IE 9 seems to work properly but some of the webpages I'm accessing only work with the 32-bit version of IE 9. I've searched the web for solutions, but I'm beginning to think I E9 (32 bit version) have become corrupt or are missing some DLL files. Has anyone had this same issue and how do you fix it? I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java. I've looked at my security settings within IE 9 to see if something is interfering with certain types of links …

Office 2010 Field shading group policy not working.
by Guest rcr_nz- 0 replies

We are in the process of migrating our University from Office 2007 to Office 2010. I've created new group policy objects for Office 2010 and migrated all our Office 2007 settings over. The Field Shading policy under 'Microsoft Word 2010/Word Options/Advanced' does not seem to be working, we normally have this set to Always and this works fine under Office 2007. I've confirmed that the policy is being applied and other settings are working as expected. I checked the admx file to see what registry setting this gpo should apply and can confirm that the the following key is being set: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\14.0\word\options\vpref] "grpfvi…

Internet Explorer
by Guest Mjoplin- 0 replies

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and had spyware that hijacked my search engine for the longest time. Finally I hacked my registry and got rid of the worst traces of it, unfortunately I also apparently broke the feature that allows it to search and sort result from the address bar via my preferred search engine. Now it just kind of times out. I'm hoping to find a patch or repair kit that re-installs the default settings of IE 9.0 in my registry and let's me continue to use the 64 and 32 bit versions of my favorite browser. When i attempt an upgrade/install to 9.0 from the web, I get an error message saying that my current version is newer than the one I am attempting …
