I obtained Office Communicator 2007 R1 for my personal computer through the Home Use Program but my organization now uses R2. How can I go about upgrading from R1 to R2? Preferably at no cost since I already paid for R1. My IT people don't seem to know. Thanks! Continue reading...

By Paul Thurrott Apple surprised tech enthusiasts this morning with an announcement about a coming Mac OS X update, dubbed Mountain Lion, that will ship this summer. There were absolutely no rumors to indicate such a release was coming, and given the timing, one can logically assume that Apple is trying to steal some thunder from Microsoft’s eagerly-awaited Windows 8. I am trying to re-load my Outlook 2007 to my new computer. When I enter Outlook, it asks for my 25 digit product key. I got the number from my previous computer's outlook. I try to enter the number and when I get to the digits "707" it tells me that the number 0 is invalid in a product key? I've had my Outlook 2007 on my other computer for years and it works fine. I like it and would prefer to continue using it. What am I doing wrong? Continue reading...

The email message indicates a transaction from ACH has been cancelled and would like the user to click the link to view the details. Upon clicking the link, it redirects the user to a site that allows the download of a fake Java update. Users are advised to be vigilant when it comes to opening email messages even if it comes from a known source. Does Security Essentials cover Zeus virus? Continue reading...

I bought Office 2010 (in 2010) through my husband's work. I still have the email with the link and authorization code. Then recently I had to replace my hard drive, so now, of course, no more Office. Is there anything I can do? The link doesn't work anymore and the code doesn't work on the free trial of Office. Do I have any recourse? Continue reading...

I have a scenario where a machine (which previously had Office 2003 on it - but which was remvoed before the Office 2010 install) refuses to intall office. What should be a trivial installation is simply not working and proving a complete PITA to get to the bottom of! The install fails with the following error in the event log: "Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Office Shared MUI (English) 2010. Product Version: 14.0.4763.1000. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603" I can see that 1603 = "Fatal error during installation" (not very helpful !) When the install fails, Office dosn't show up in Add/Remove pro…

When navigating in MS CRM 4 from a Win XP SP3 / IE8 web browser, the 'Recruitment \ Applications \ Application Information' shows a login requester box (requesting login credentials to the CRM web server) in order to access the page when the same page is navigated to from a Win 7 \ IE8 machine the login requester box does not appear and the page opens normally. Why is the behaviour different between Win XP SP3 and Win 7 with the same browser and same browser settings (receiving the same settings through MS GPO)? The Login requester box did not appear while using Win XP SP3 with IE7 browser, the behaviour changed as soonn as the browser was upgraded to IE8. The version n…

Hi, I've been searching so long anywhere else! Please, do You think it's possible to share Excel and Word files between an iPAQ 6815 (Windows Mobile 5.0) and a Nokia Lumia 800 (Windows Phone 7.5)? I do not mean "a place" like SkyDrive, but a common format that allows not just to read but Modify and SAVE lots of old Windows works. Does exist any software solution on one or both deviceses to make them somehow compatible? Best regards and thank You so much, Federico Continue reading...

Hello We maintain a school network with approximately 400 computers. 2/3 are installed with Windows 7 Enterprise for which we have an educational MS-KISS license (all computers are being activated with the same MAK-key). What happens: every now and then a computer claims it has a non-legitime windows and needs to be activated again. We then just push the Activate Now button and Windows reactivates immediately and works properly again. I wonder why machines suddenly need a reactivation? No hardware changes where made to those machines. Yesterday two computers needed reactivation and they showed a slightly different message: your activation period has been expired. I h…
