G'day, I am certain that I have a genuine Windows Vista. I have installed Microsoft Securities Essentials and have been using it for months. I have never had any problems. This morning my wife turned on the computer and saw a pop up saying we had a problem with the program. She deleted the message and went to her e-mail. When she told me I opened M S E and I have in red PRUDENTIALLY UNPROTECTED sign. There is a button to RESOLVE NOW . Run a Valuation Check. I receive an error 0X 4FF02. I scanned the computer and everything seems fine and up to-date. I cannot find how to remove that PRUDENTIALLY UNPROTECTED SIGN. I would appreciate some help please. Malcolm …

I am new to this whole deployment game, but am getting quite involved with creating custom WIMs for customers these days. I have a HP ProBook 4330s I am preparing a Win 7 Pro custom image which will need to: Have all drivers installed - at the moment I only have one tricky one, the Fingerprint Scanner only has an EXE from source files with no way to extract driver. Thoughts? Microsoft Office 2010 Third-party Apps Windows Updates As this is a non-domain environment, and deploying via USB, how would you suggest I handle each of these requirements? I have been trying for the past 3 weeks to eliminate this virus. I have gotten some good input from a number of people. That input has gotten me close to a final solution but not an end-all. I have removed my infected hard drive and have connected it to a non-infected computer as a jump drive. On that "clean" computer, I have run both Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes comes up clean. However, Security Essentials keeps coming up with a severe infection: Trojan:DOS/Alueron.E. Under "Items" is boot:\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE1\PARTION3(TYPE17). I'm a neophyte. So I would appreciate very easily-followed answers, if there are any out there. Thanks. Continue readin…

Hi, My Lenovo W520 Toshiba HDD crashed. I'm trying to recover the machine to factory state from a Acronis image i made. On this image there is the Q:\ Drive with the Factory Lenovo Images Cdrivebackup.wim and Srivebackup.wim. I mounted the volume with Acronis and copied the *.wim files to the third Partition on the new SSD i want to install in my W520. I haven't made the Recovery Disc from Lenovo. But I thought about applying the Images i have with the WinPE ImageX command. I build the WinPE on my Workstation C20 just to boot into WinPE and install the Lenovo Images already in the SSD. The Image System is 64bit WIN7 Pro. I tried both WinPE 64 with the following comma…

Hello all, I created a Windows PE dics with WAIK for Windows 7 and then created a .wim file that I uploaded to a Windows 7 Pro virtual machine called 7pro.wim. I can apply that .wim file just fine to other PCs. So I then imaged a PC with 7pro.wim and then started to add additional apps to it and used the same PE disc to create a students.wim file and uploaded it to the same virtual machine. The problem I am running into is when I image a PC with the students.wim file I receive an error 32 "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." All verisons of Windows 7 are Pro x64. Thanks in advance. Continue reading...

I have been infected with the Alureon trojan - and am not sure for how long. I think I have removed it, but knowing how it hides and regenerates from all the reading I have done, one suggestion was to fix the MBR as a reinstall of the OS wouldn't take care of it if the trojan is hidden in the MBR. When I attempt to do so, I get a warning that my computer appears to have a non-standard or invalid MBR and that if I continue it my damage my partition tables. One computer isn't partitioned, the other is. I confess that I am a chicken as I really dont' know that much about computers and don't want to do further damage, but need to get rid of this. Thank you for any help y…

We recently started having problems updating our Windows XP SP3 PCs. So, as a test case, I downloaded the “Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 (x86) - CD VL (English)” cd from MSDN. I have a computer on our domain that will not let me print from IE9 unless the user is an administrator on the local machine. I have a number of users that use this computer and log in at different times, but have to be part of global security group called Special Group to operate special software. This group is member of the administrator group on the local machine. When I log in as one of these users and right click and run IE9 as an administrator it works fine. If I try to do it without running as an admin it ask me to install a printer(printers do not show and there are 3 or 4) and kills the print spooler and I have to restart it(printers show after). If I set myself…

While using IE9 if I open a new tab it will give me a blank tab page instead of the "new tab page" which is what i would like to see. Now i usually just go to internet options and hit restore defaults which fixes the problem but somehow it seems to revert back to the blank tab page whenever i use IE9 the next time. Im not sure what i should do to fix this but it has become rather bothersome. Continue reading...
