I have a Server 2003 domain and I’m trying to set up a GPO for roaming profile with Windows 7, using one (test) user account and two Win7 computers for testing. The GPO, for now, is set to delete cached copies of roaming profiles to ease simulating users moving to new computers. I get the following results: · When using roaming profiles without excluded directories or folder redirection everything works fine – the user can log on and off the two computers without problems and the network profile gets updated as it should. I set the theme to Basic and this setting is roamed between the two computers. · When excluding or redirecting any of the “…

I am exhausted. I've spent hours trying to disable the option to save as pdf in Word 2010's save as menu. I've successfully installed the administrative templates for Office 2010, and added the control id 12499 in Gpedit.msc\ User Config\Administrative Template\Microsoft Word 2010\Disable items in user interface\Custom\Disable commands\. I've run gpupdate /force, restarted the PC, ensured that gpsvc is working properly, tried the same steps on my laptop, tried disabling 'filesaveaswebpage' (3823)(doesnt work too), BUT save as pdf is still ENABLED. Please help. Thanks, Jay Continue reading...

I have restored my computer three times by now. For some reason windows 7 64bit hangs up for five minutes trying to boot. This is annoying. After I pick a prior restore date, every thing is good, my operating system will boot up in about 30 seconds. Any way I did the restore again today. I was thinking it was a microsoft update download that was causing the problem. But as soon as I retored my computer and it started right up, I noticed that Security essential Icon was reddish, so I brought up the control menu and clicked the update box. After the new virus definition download completed and the castel turned green again. I thought I was done turned off the computer. Then …

We have seen more Windows 7 SP1 (maybe RTM, still investigating) in the corporate environment do the bong bong when the first USB attached device is attached to the machine but Windows Mobile Device Center is never triggered to install. We end up having to download the Windows Mobile Device Center installer and installing. I understand that a standard user does not have sufficient rights to allow WMDC to be triggered and installed, although I don't see why it still can't be triggered and an elevated prompt given to allow the install however, that is a different issue from what I'd like to understand. In the same scenario where a local administrator is logged in the W…

Hi everyone...hope someone can help.. Some time ago had same problem with SP3 RC2. Spent few hours trying to do it, deinstalled half of the programs that could have been causing this like: Daemon Tools, Hide Folders XP, Ideazone Z Engine, Nod32, all the anti spyware stuff, etc... Tried intstalling from safe mode. too. Nothing worked in the end and I slowly destroyed my OS, had to reinstall. Gave up hoping the final SP3 will take care of it. Today I tried to install Final RTM SP3 on 100% working system of win XP Pro SP2 with all the current updates installed. Same as in previous, above experience everything goes fine untill instalation tries to copy file ispcnerr.ht…

A solution that worked for my Dell Inspiron 6400 XP professional SP 3. I discovered (by pure inspiration !!!) that when pressing the Dell Media Direct button (instead of pressing the "power" button !!) I could boot and actually see all the folders of my laptop [those containing media files (photos, videos) I could even play them]. After browsing the folders containing media files (photos, movies) I clicked "exit" and my laptop powered off. After that I pressed the "power" button and my laptop booted normally. I am not sure but it may be that the BSOD Unmountable Boot Volume error appeared after I installed the Slim Cleaner application. After I was able to boot aga…
