Since installing microsoft security essentials I receive a message icon that says my computer...
by Guest RaymondPiper- 0 replies

original title: question on microsoft security essentials I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Version. I had no problem downloading. However, every time I turn my computer on the icon changes from green to a brownish red color and states that my computer is Potentially Unprotected. I came into this sight one day last week, and I noticed someone else was having a similar issue. I seen that it was said to go into the CCleaner and under applications uncheck microsoft antimalware and microsoft control panel. I did so. But that has not changed anything. What else can I do? I like this type of antivirus, but if it doesn't get resolved I will probably go b…

original title wga win 7 I moved my hard drive to a new system. I re-authenticated my Windows 7 install by calling the automated system and entering the codes. original title: yuterx.exe Good day to all. Folders in my memory stick turned into shortcuts and when i try to open them, the following message comes up: the item yuterx.exe that this shortcut refers to has been moved or changed. I scanned the memory stick with microsoft essentials and malwarebytes. Both say that the memory stick is clean. What can I do. Continue reading...

IE8 errors on several but not all machines.
by Guest OTS Tech- 0 replies

I have a number of XP machines with IE8 on them that recently started having errors on common pages. For instance if you go to www.stltoday.com and click the Health tab. It will give a Send Report to MS error and if you look at the details it mentions ntdll.dll. After saying No Don't Send it flashes a moment and loads the desired page. I can make this happen on 2 local newspapers as well as a doppler weather site I often go to. In every case it recovers the page and works fine after the error. I have tried to reset security settings, run IE without addons and I have uninstalled adobe flash, air and pdf reader because those came into play on the pages. the strangest…

XP SP3 with Wireshark
by Guest fdixon- 0 replies
I'm sure I did this several months ago but can not get to work now. Have 2 Nics in PC: 192.168.61.201 and 202. NICs are connected thru switch. Normally if I ping 202 no packets would go out PC but 201 would ping 202 thru backplane. If I use WinPcap.SendQue it appeared (based on switch stats) that ICMP request packet from 201 went to switch and response packet from 202 went to switch and then to 201 NIC. Trafffic appeared in Wireshark. My belief was that WinPcap.SendQue forced packet out. Does this seem correct analysis ? Op: XP Pro SP2, Well it now appears I have SP3. Could this have any impact ? Thanks fd Continue reading...

Question on making a winpe boot disk
by Guest foxdenvixen- 0 replies
I believe I have a failing HDD in my PC. I am trying to make a winpe boot disk so that I can image the drive before I replace it. I watched a video on youtube.com because I am more of a visual learner. First of all my system is about 4 years old. The processor is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 from what I remember. I am creating this disk on my laptop to be used in my PC with the failing HDD. In the cmd prompt, I typed copype.cmd ia64 because in a post on the video someone had mentioned that if you have an Intel processor this is what you have to use. The video shows using amd64. My husband said to use x64 instead because my processor is not an Itanium processor, so I would t…

Sysprep : removes local group and security policies
by Guest Jim--S- 0 replies
When I sysprep all of the local group and security policies are removed from a specific user account. I don't want this to happen. This system is a stand-alone unit and needs a specific account to have limited abilites. This account must be a member of the administrators group. The policies must NOT apply to the whole administrators group, just this specific user. This account cannot be a member of any other built-in type as all "Non Administrators" also have specific policies set. If I dont /generalize when I sysprep then the policies aren't cleaned up... but then my image fails on machines that aren't my reference machine. Is there a way to ensure the policies of…

Booting to WinPE disc = 0xc000000f required device is inaccessible
by Guest Richard Berg- 0 replies
Steps so far: 1) I prepared a new machine using a clean install of Win7 RTM x64, installed all of our productivity apps, then ran sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown 2) On another machine, I created a WinPE ISO using the Win7 AIK and burned it to a DVD. Next step is to capture the image and upload it to a fileserver. However, I can't even boot into the PE environment. Every time I try, I get Status: 0xc000000f Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. I've tried creating both x86 and x64 WinPE DVDs -- same result. Tried several, in fact, to ensure it's not due to a burn error. I am not doing any customizations to the ISO othe…

Error 0x800710dd - unable to execute a file detected by Quarantine
by Guest Hans-Georg Michna- 0 replies
original title: Error 0x800710dd What exactly does the error code 0x800710dd mean? What exactly causes MSE to issue this error code? In my case MSE complains about a file that I have meanwhile excluded from scanning, and when I try to execute the only choice it gives me, "Quarantine", I get the error code. For a test I have removed the file in question, but MSE still shows it on its to-do list and still throws the error. This is erroneous or nonsensical behavior. MSE now complains about a nonexistent file. Is MSE really up to its task? This is the very first thing MSE did after I installed it, so the out-of-the-box experience is about as poor as it can be, and I…

Allow a file that was labeled Quatantine by Microsoft Security Essentials
by Guest Hans-Georg Michna- 0 replies
original title: Allow a file MSE complains about a file that, in my particular case, is desired. MSE shows me a select box for choices of what to do with the file. However, the only choice in that select box is, "Quarantine". I want the file to be allowed and I don't want MSE to ask me again about it. I have already put the file into the exclusion list, but this has had no effect. Is there any way to force MSE to do what I want, short of uninstalling it? Hans Continue reading...

I have a small workgroup of computers (mixture of XP and 7 machines) in which I have a batch file on each system that will run a RoboCopy of their local data down to another pc acting as the 'backup station' The batch file is C:\BackupLocal.bat I want to set up a hidden user with administrator priveledges that will run this batch file after hours even if the main user is logged out. My problem is that they use the Windows user screen to select their log in name and go and I didn't want another username showing up on that list. The users are always changing their passwords so I can't really use their usernames in a task because it will stop working once they change thei…
