I'm looking for a way to deploy Visio and Project 2010 to selected users without SCCM. I tried a logon script based on the one Microsoft posted as a sample in Technet and it worked for some users, but is unreliable. When the users need both Visio and Project, it would error out because it says 2 setup files can't run at the same time. So, I set a GPO for logon scripts to run synchronously and it worked for some users, but others would get a black screen at logon that would hang forever. Seems to me this is UAC interference with no UAC prompt being popped up. When the script was disabled, they could log on normally. I thought of startup scripts, but that does not sho…

Hello all! This is my first post here. I am finalizing a Deployment solution for small repair workshops. The objective is to reduce effort required to install the Windows Operating System. Final Result is a PXE boot menu with options for one button boot and nuke followed up with a fresh OS install. Can select from XP, Vista, 7, 8 all x86 or x64. Utilized code from tftp32... still working out details if I am allowed to release my code. Creates a lightwieght portable tftp server and pxe dhcp proxy server along with SMB share. Binary PXE image from syslinux package. No user input required passed OS selection, fully unattended partitioning and install.I have finished …

By Paul Thurrott Google on Tuesday announced a new online service called Google Play that consolidates previously separate entertainment-based online services into a single location that’s easily accessible by users of the company’s Android mobile OS. Ultimately, what we’re looking at here is a rebranding of the Android Marketplace that better positions the service to compete with Apple’s dominant iTunes Store. Continue reading...

I had Office 2007 installed and I ran the upgrade of office 2010. I was under the impression it imported old user settings into Outlook. It did import, but apparently it duplicated my inbox's. I now have 2 inbox's for my Exchange Account and 2 inbox's for my pop3 account. I am needing to upgrade another user and do not want this to happen again. What can I do to ensure this doesn't happen. Jim Doss Continue reading...

Is it possible to use group policy with an admin template to add the everyone group to the local power users group on all XP machines, or.... in your experience would this more likely be acheived through another way, perhaps the machines build phase or some other way to push this out corporately. I know of RSOP.msc and gpresult, but I wouldnt know which setting to look at to see if a domain policy is populating the everyone global group into each local machines power users group? Basically I can see everyone is part of power users on my PC - but would like to see if thats the same for all other machines, i.e. if thats applied via default domain policy? I assume it isnt …

In the last couple of weeks, users in my school district started getting the Windows Scripting Error while browsing in IE. Our district computers are Windows XP and Windows 7 and we are using IE8 and IE9. All of the troubleshooting recommendations are not working. It does not seem to be happeing with the local admin user, only the domain user. Domain user and computer are under no policies. Since I thought it was a user profile issue, I deleted the user account of the domain user and also the user folder. I also deleted all reference to the user in the registry. Yet when I recreated the user and logged back on, the user still gets the scripting error. Any ideas on why thi…

Hi, We are in the process of migrating 2500 pcs from XP to Windows 7 using SCCM. We are repurposing PCs on the network and each machine will be formatted and repartitioned in the task sequence. Currently I am working on adding Offline use of USMT to copy user profiles to a network share prior to the format/partition and then when Win7 is installed and configured, I am attempting to run Loadstate to move the accounts from the network share back to the PC. I have it working now so that my task sequence will copy the profiles back to the Win7 machine, but no matter what I seem to try, I cannot get the accounts to migrate from local accounts to domain accounts. I have tried …

Hi, I have the following problem, we installed Office 2010 on some Windows XP-Maschinen. The Setup was running through a software deployment tool Before we deploy the office installation we created a MSP-File for customizing the installation settings. The SharePoint Workplace was deacivated and made invisible for users so that they can't see and install the software. After the Installation I had an new button in the windows explorer toolbar called folder sync. I know this is a groove function (now called sharepoint workplace). Does anyone know how to remove this button and why the groove.exe exists in my office program files folder? THX Thomas Continue reading...

I received a phone call today from an Asian sounding caller. They claimed to represent Microsoft and that they were calling to advise of a new aggressive virus that they could deal with. I asked whether they had put the virus onto the internet themselves. After a pause they invited me to visit a site called something like "Check Buddah". Scam? or a real microsoft representative presumably calling all the millions of computer owners in the world to save them from a virus that, as they say, no virus protection programme can deal with. Perhaps it's a genuine service but I am not going anywhere near this site. Continue reading...

I had been using Firefox until yesterday, but it started crashing a lot so I switched back to Internet Explorer (version 9.0.8112.16421). I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit and I have Internet Explorer 9 32-bit pinned to the start menu and the task bar. However, when I click the IE9 32-bit icon it opens the 64-bit version instead. My keyboard has a key to open the default web browser on fn+f3, and this opens IE9 32-bit because it's the default browser. If anyone can help me that would be awesome because I really like using jump lists and as far as I know the 64-bit version doesn't have them. Continue reading...

Windows 7 64-bits SP1 IE9 Asus U35JC Laptop Crashes with Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace and VLC Media Player (I think version 1.1.5) The problem is that IE9 does not work when either a game from Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace is started (so it is fine when only the Marketplace is open, but when I start Age of Empires Online it crashes for example). Recently, it has been doing the same when VLC Media Player is on. What happens is that upon opening IE, it just immediately tells me that IE had an unexpected error and it tries to restore (resulting in the same behavior). It repeats every time these programs are used and for now doesn't happen with any o…
