Hi I have a VAIO laptop running Windows 7. All latest updates installed. Bought in UK but I am now based in Australia. 95% of the time my VAIO connects to wifi networks without any problem. However twice in the past month I've been frustrated by a problem where the VAIO connects to the network but will not load emails or webpages. On both occasions the "Network & Sharing Center" window displays that the PC is connected to the network and that it does have internet access. The signal shows full strength service and when I hover the mouse over the connection strength icon bottom right of the taskbar, a pop-up confirms the correct wifi connection and confirms…

I can not access system restore. I thought I could get rid of the warning in this manner. It has a red circle with a white X in the center: with a warning of 63 possible threats. Click here to fix. I have not clicked on it...for fear it is a scam. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Continue reading...

The file it identified was in windows\system32\drivers\acpi.sys To fully recover from the virus, I had to restart from the last saved set point. It starts fine. Everything runs. But at shut down I get that application Pentablet.exe had the 0x76bf176a error (apparently MS Essentials). Hitting OK continues the shutdown. One other error happens...quickly something like Smsystemanalyse can't shut down. I have rerun the scan-deep scan, and nothing came up. How do I fix this? Do I still have the virus? I've gone through the download 2x's and there seems to be issues popping up more frequently than 2 hours ago. I found the driver install CD, but would not work with anything more than vista. So I have downloaded the recommended download twice (90 minutes each time) I am not really sure what it is going to take, I am sure this can be fixed, just tired of guessing my way through, and being afraid that in my haste- I will do something I will regret. Hi, I recently received a Toshiba laptop. I incorrectly chose the 32 bit version of windows 7 which cannot access most of the memory on the Toshiba. When I called customer support of Toshiba, they said the only way to do a non-destructive reinstall is to buy a copy of Windows 7 and reinstall. The Toshiba didn't come with a disk. It was installed on a partition on the drive. I happen to have a licensed copy of Windows 7 Pro from about six months ago. So I was going to use this disk to do an upgrade from the 32 bit version to the 64 bit version. However the install didn't work.... We just roll out deployment of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 and Office Professional Plus 2010 SP1. We got this complains from many users. After system boot, sometimes (randomly) double byte Asian characters in file names are shown as square. Same for, title bars, dialog boxes, across all Microsoft products. Folder and file names, IE 9 favorite, Chrome browser 17, Safari 7 bookmarks Asian character names all show up in a square . Only exception are FireFox 10 bookmark correctly shows double byte characters without any problem. "Randomly", we mean one time one system power up, all Asian character shows up fine. My computer alerted that I had new updates for Windows 7, updates were installed and computer automatically restarted. However on restart it said computer was not shut down properly and when it tried to restart said there were issues and could not restart windows. Hi all, after having a virus 'Win32/Ramnit' or something similar being picked up by microsoft security essentials the other day, it now keeps on asking me to perform a full scan, however now that I am performing a full scan to check for traces of the virus, it seems to be taking ever so long? currently it has taken me 4.5 hours and the bar currently looks like it is at most half a centremetre progressed. I want to know is this normal to take so long and if anyone can give me a ballpark figure on the time needed to complete a full scan as I know the amount of files on the computer effect the times... help! i was invaded by Security Shield and cant get rid of it!!! It keeps opening boxes telling me to register. It also prevents me from running IE (telling me the program is infected) or MSE (just hangs there). I rebooted - no help. FYI i run a full MSE scan every Sunday night and my definitions are only 5 days old. I rebooted again on SAFE mode w/networking and got here. I ran a quick scan - found nothing. I'm at my wit's end.
