Every time I go to Uninstall MSE from the control panel and click "remove" it gives me the message: "Microsoft Security Client Installation Wizard can't find files necessary to complete te installation. To install this program, please download the installation again from the security client website" But I try to reinstall it and it gives me the message that " MSE is already installed in your computer". But then I can't run the program properly because it gives me error message: 0x80070715. HELP! Continue reading...

If I paste the URL of the MSE download site (www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5201) into IE, I get redirected to a variety of sites that are reportedly selling software to "fix" my PC. The virus appears to be in IE (as opposed to deeper in the network, such as DNS), since pasting the same URL into Google Chrome works as expected. I was able to access microsoft.com and walk the links to the MSE site, so it does not look like the Conflicker worm. Help! I don't see any other overt signs of an infection, but if it's redirecting selected URLs, I worry about what else it might be doing. I just completed a full scan with MSE, which found nothing. We can't get a stream that always played fine in IE8 to play from within IE9. When we click on the stream it opens a new window as always, but the stream does not initiate. We can play the same stream fine in Firefox 10. We tried disabling and re-enabling the Windows Media Player add-on, but that had no effect. We are currently running IE9 v.9.0.8112.16421 on Windows 7 with SP1 on a 64 bit system. Any suggestions? Continue reading...

Hi, In IE 8 is it possible to have multiple rows of the favorites toolbar? I have a number of favorites that I go to quite frequently and it would be real handy to have a second row on the favorites bar. Just wondering if this is possible at all. If so, how? Thanks in advance, Linn Continue reading...

On Windows 8 CP, you can start IE10 64 bit, as you could with the DP, by running: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe By contrast, the 32 bit version is here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe So how come when you start the 64 bit IE10, does it start 32 bit processes for rendering the actual pages? This is different from the IE10 in the DP, which ran all 64 bit. If you have a 64 bit system, fire up the old Task Manager if you don't believe me. -Noel Detailed how-to in my eBook: In development: Configure The Windows 7 "To Work" Options Configure The Windows 8 "To Work" Options Continue reading...

This morning, I turned on the computer and noticed the icon for MSE in the system tray was red with an x on it. I opened MSE and it said "Computer status - At risk" and "Real-time protection is turned off. You should turn it on." First of all, I have no idea why it wouldn't be on - it's always on, and I never turn it off. But more importantly, when I click the big red button that says "Turn on", nothing happens. It acts like it's trying, but then times out and gives me the error code 0x800705b4. What do I need to do to get this to turn on? I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1. Thanks in advance for your help. Continue reading...

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. Two days ago I installed the update of service pack. The previous time I ran the upgrade it was successful. But this time when I ran the windows update. It installed correctly when the PC was on. After that windows prompted me to restart the computer. It was OK until the Starting Windows screen and then when it came to the welcome screen, there was a text. "Preparing to Configure Service Pack" first it was 44% and after 1/2 half it was around 70%. But it did not go much more than 70%. I waited for 2 hours, but it was still 70%. I started the computer in safe mode and restored my system successfully but I want to update my PC. Here are my COMP. A couple of years ago, I purchased a Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack (three licenses) and installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on three PCs in my home, replacing Vista Ultimate on each. A few weeks later, I realized that I could no longer use Remote Desktop on these machines with Windows Home Server, because that feature is not enabled in the Home Premium version. So I've purchased a full retail Windows 7 Professional 64-bit DVD, and I wish to upgrade one of the home PCs from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional using this disk - I'm assuming that I'll be able to do this through some upgrade path without performing a fresh install and losing all of my …
