Windows System Image Manager - XML Alerts
by Guest TT-ICCSD- 0 replies
I copied the entire contents of the Windows 7 installation disc to my hard drive and then began building a Sysprep answer file via the WSIM. I opened the catalog file located in the OS folder on the hard drive and built the answer file. Now, every time I open that answer file in WSIM I get two XML alerts: 1. Cannot find the file D:\work\Enterprise\install.wim. 2. The catalog file associated with the Windows image Windows 7 ENTERPRISE(Catalog) is out of date. I didn't remove anything from the OS folder on the hard drive so WSIM should be able to find them. I don't understand why these alerts are popping up. I also don't know where WSIM is coming up with the path for t…

Are my corporate systems\software compatiable with Windows 7?
by Guest AlexanderDelarge- 0 replies
We are in the process of upgrading to Windows 7. We plan of using a hybrid approach where we upgrade systems that are compatible and phase out those which are not by buying new systems with Windows 7 installed. In short I would like to know if there is an easy way to look at all the networked systems (All of which are XP SP3) and report whether or not the hardware and software are compatible. Now I tried out Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit and Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. The compatibility toolkit only seemed to find windows 7 machines on our network. Either that or I just didn't see where it was reporting XP. The upgrade advisor seemed to report what I ne…

Hello all, Currently i am working with an install infrastructure where we boot into WinPe. Several tasks are done while in WinPe to configure the machine before actually booting into windows such as partitioning the disc and applying the Win7 wim file using imagex. Long story short, right after I have the installed OS on my C: drive. I need to install .net 4.0 using dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe while still in WinPe. anyone know of a way to do this? IE10 Consumer Preview Smoothing Fonts Without Any Color
by Guest Noel Carboni- 0 replies
Something's gone wrong with IE10's font smoothing logic: It's not using any color in the font smoothing process while rendering web pages. It's being done properly in Windows 8 CP in general, and even in the IE10 menus and chrome, just not in the rendered page. I've tried it with the IE10 "Use Software Rendering instead of GPU Rendering" setting in both positions, and I've tried it with all different settings of the ClearType Tuner. Under no conditions will IE10 use color precompensation in its font rendering. This worked properly in the IE10 in the Windows 8 Developer Preview. It looked quite good there, actually. Here is a magnified view, so you can see clearly: …

IE9 connectivity not working with the 32 bit browser.
by Guest James Toutges- 0 replies

The 64 bit IE9 browser works but the 32 bit browser on the same machine doesnt. Anyone have any ideas? I have verified DNS via DOS and can ping by name in DOS but my IE 9 32 bit browser cannot browse the internet or connect to windows update server. The 64 bit browser can browse the internet and connect to the windows update server. I have verified that no proxy setting are enabled (both in "internet Options" and in the registry. I believe it has to have something to do with a registry setting being wrong somehow. The reason I think this is because the 64bit browser is in a different path on the hard drive. Internet Explorer 9 64 bit is installed at "C:\Program Fil…

Right click function on all IE9 Toolbars gone
by Guest Gui Digue- 0 replies
I'm using Windowz 7 Home. I have lost the abilty to add or remove Toolbars in IE9 by right clicking. I can add them by pressing [Alt] to bring up the Menu bar, then add them through View, Toolbars. But I still have no ability to configure the Command Bar because all right click function in the Toolbar area is gone. The right click function is available above the Toolbar area and within the browser itself. But none exits within the Toolbar area. I have disabled all add-ons, reset Internet Explorer settings, downgraded from IE9 to IE8, removed IE8 by removing it as a Windows Feature. I have then brought everything back up. Added IE8 as a Windows feature, upgraded to IE9, no…

Hi all, on ie9 RTM I cannot drag and drop tabs between windows or to a new window. This problem is affecting me on RTM ie9 but I have had a similar problem on the RC and betas as well. Basically, the tab drag and drop behaviour is like ie8, I can re-arrange tabs within a window, but I cannot drag a tab outside of the window or between windows. I uninstalled any previews/betas prior to installing newer versions, and I have tried resetting ie9 settings with no luck. Any registry keys to check/try? system is: win7 64bit ultimate, latest radeon drivers (aero etc). Continue reading...

Upgrade/'Repair' install of Italian Home Premium 32-bit
by Guest tooc- 0 replies
I have a problem with an Italian Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium installation that I have been unable to resolve. So I am resorting to an upgrade install in order to 'repair' the current installation (for which I have a legitimate licence key). I downloaded the English Win 7 32-bit generic version as an ISO file and started to perform an upgrade install. However, I didn't get very far before I received the message that I couldn't upgrade due to the language difference. I searched on the internet but could not find an Italian version. I did find a language pack (MUI) for Italian, but it is claimed to be for higher versions of Win 7 than Home Premium. In any case it …

Hiding IP address
by Guest Capricorn 6- 0 replies

I have been receiving anonymous calls every Thursday at 8:30 pm. I have caller display so I do not answer as the latter tells me the caller is “international”. I have recently changed my telephone number (ex directory) and email address and I have had my pc completely wiped and Windows 7 put on it. I did this because I had a Trojan on the pc and I was being harassed by aggressively sounding Indian voices. I update Microsoft Essentials every day, run scans etc & periodically use Malwarebytes anti Malware, so the pc is as clean as it can be. Given that I have all this security and made the changes to my phone number in the last few weeks I cannot fathom how the anonym…

"Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]. The settings specified in the answer file cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup]" I have a very detailed Unattend.xml file that I have been working on for about a month now and I have managed to hammer out all the details of getting drivers to install based on the hardware, name the machine, add to the domain, set power setttings so on and so fourth. Anyways, the last process in this long list of items it to get the Default profile edited. I have a local user profile, that's a member of the Administrators group.…

Flash Drive not recognized?
by Guest papaboy- 0 replies

Hi: As a preface, FYI, my autoplay is turned off. I recently discovered that my usb connected flash drive was not accessible via My Computer. I googled the problem and was led to Disk Management. In Disk Management's Diskeeper, the flash drive is listed and is healthy. In a google fix, the instructions were to change the drive letter, etc. but that hasn't worked. To sum up, the flash drive appears in Device Manager, Disk Management but not recognized in My Computer. Am I not using Disk Management properly? Continue reading...
