A Windows update that failed made my computer loose my Profile. I had been using Go To Meetings with no problem. Today was the 1 day to join a meeting since the problem on my computer. I am using Internet Explorer (64 bit). I now get the following errors: Your computer’s OS or Web browser are not supported. And error message: Unable to get a unique ‘g2m” temp directory name within C:\Users\Marie McGowan\AppData\Local\Temp\: The directory name is invalid. I thought maybe I should remove the program and then re-install, but I cannot get the download to work which also writes to the temp directory. My security is Mirosoft Security Essentials. How do I get this to wo…

By Paul Thurrott I was looking at Office 15 on a normal desktop computer with a large screen, and two things stand out that weren’t obvious on a tablet. The Office 15 applications look an awful lot like the Zune PC software. And they utilize a weird glow effect instead of a shadow when windowed. Continue reading...

I recently upgraded my Microsoft Office 2007 to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010. Then, my nightmare began. Every time I would open Word 2010, and all other MS Office programs, I get this error message: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more details. So, here's the event log that even confuses me more: General Description: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\URLREDIR.DLL". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32", version="9.0.30729.…

Does anybody have experience of the above (protector-wqy.exe)? Came home from work this evening and my wife told me her laptop was infected with some type of malware. MS Security Essentials will not load and doesn't show as running in desktop menu bar. Task Manager will not run either so pretty sure some form of infection has taken place. I'm just wondering why MS Security Essentials didn't capture it? Only fix I could see online was at http://remove-malware.net/get-rid-of-windows-antihazard-solution-fake-app-to-eliminate-the-risk/ Tried manual fix first, but unable to run regedit from either normal or safe mode or safe mode (command prompt). PC Tools Scan Docto…

Hi, I have a fresh install of Win7x64 with IE9. I am trying to add other search providers and accelerators to IE9. When I go to the website www.ieaddons.com or www.iegallery.com basically click through to the page like the one here: I click the orange 'Add to Internet Explorer' button and nothing happens. I know I should get a pop up window that allows me to actually add the add on, but nothing happens. This is with every add on I've tried on the website. I've tried uninstalling IE9 and reverting back to IE8 but got the same result there as well. I re-installed IE9 again and still the same. I reset IE9 several times and that didn't work. I also disabled all ad…

I have a number of customers now who have experienced the same issue. The usb keyboard or mouse will just stop working. A reboot sorts it and it works again, sometimes for a few minutes sometimes for days. I have been looking into this problem and can find no real solution. The mice and keyboards have been checked and they are fine, no problems The computers are fine with no problems and these include 2 brand new computers. It must be a software or driver issue. The machines are all XP SP3 and the keyboard that is doing it most is a Microsoft one!!! Anyone any ideas? Continue reading...

Hello, I've got a number of users running Win7 Pro 32bit using roaming profiles. We're replacing their current hardware and the new PCs will be running Win7 Pro 64bit. I've heard of issues with roaming back and forth between 32 and 64 bit but this will be a one time move. Once they are on 64bit they'll only roam to other 64bit PCs. What would be the proper way to migrate their profile to 64bit? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Cheers! Continue reading...

I noticed today that there is a new icon on my desktop, called Home Group(or something like that, because my operation system is in Dutch, so it appears as Thuisgroep). I cannot remove this icon because it's not like the other shortcuts and I don't know how it appeared there. Is it because of an update of the system? I don't use the home group for now so ... I don't really need it there. Any ideas? Thanks! Alexandra. Continue reading...

I'm hoping someone can answer a couple of questions concerning OEM vs Volume licensing and imaging. If you have a machine that you activate using the OEM license and the computer becomes infected so you use the recovery media how many times are you allowed to active that machine (no hardware changes)? Also if the same virus damages a machine with a volume license and that machine is reimaged how many times can you activate it (no hardware changes)? And each time you activate the volume licensed machine does that could go against your licensed amount. Say I've purchased 10 Volume License's and activated 5 PC once (5 licenses remaining). The fifth PC needs to be re-im…

Hi all, I'm having this issue that is driving me nuts so I'm at wits end here and got to ask the pros. I have a parent domain and a child domain. The child domain is located over a VPN tunnel (Sonicwall 4060) at a secure co-location. The issue is in network places the domains dont see each other, yet if I do a \\servername I can browse from each. There aretwo DCs in each location and are all running Server 2008 R2. In DNS, the zone shows the parent and child domains and DNS works OK. GPUPDATE completes successfully and from what I can see there are no communication errors in the event logs having to do with any type of AD services or connections from parent to child…

We have some XP SP3 machines on our domain that are popping up the same problem: after a domain account password reset (done by admin or the user), they are prompted for credentials when trying to access our Sharepoint site. It's only on that PC, and all of the Intranet and Internet trusted sites are set properly according to group policy. So far, the only fixes we've managed to find are to restore or recreate the profile. Is there something else we can try, or a known fix that my Google-fu is not picking up on? Thanks much.
