In Windows 8 Consumer Preview and Server Beta, IE10 and all other Microsoft WebSocket client and server features now support the final version of the IETF WebSocket Protocol. In addition, IE10 implements the W3C WebSocket API Candidate Recommendation. WebSockets are stable and ready for developers to start creating innovative applications and services. This post provides a simple introduction to the W3C WebSocket API and its underlying WebSocket protocol. The updated Flipbook demo uses the latest version of the API and protocol. In my previous post, I introduced WebSocket scenarios: WebSockets enable Web applications to deliver real-time notifications and updates in …

So I'm running a lite-touch deployment with an unattend.xml file to automatically join the computer to the domain. The problem is in offices that have more than one DC the computer gets joined to the domain twice, creating a duplicate computer in AD. I checked the setupact.log file, and it looks like djoin.exe is being run twice for some reason, even in offices with only one DC, but it doesn't cause any issues in those. Any idea why it runs twice and how to fix it? Thanks. I'm trying to install Service pack 3 for XP Pro but it fails with the 'Access Denied' error. This happens with both Windows Update or by downloading the service pack instal file. When I tried the fix here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377 using subinacl and the batch file, it gets about 5 minutes into the registry updating process (or whatever it is) but then I get a blue screen error and the computer restarts. I've tried it more than once and the same thing happens. I really need Service Pack 3 installed. What do I do? Other info: All other updates from windows update are installed (the only one in the list is the service pack) Disabled virus scanners etc and …

I've seen several similar topics around here, but none seems to be regarding my issue. I've recently acquired new laptop from Dell XPS series, with Windows 7 os. And after a week of moderate using, or rather getting used to new features as a former xp runner, i found myself in a situation where i cannot logout. Simply when i choose to shut down it only switches to the log out screen and it continues to do so until i do something more harsh like cutting power off. I wouldn't even bother solving this problem as i am very pleased with hibernate, but it doesn't give my ram memory free start and i cannot restart my laptop after some new installations. If you need more specif…

Hi, I’m trying to implement an instance of Internet Explorer 9 similar to the built-in kiosk mode, but with a few more features. Basically what I’m looking for is kiosk mode but with the Home button and Refresh button visible/enabled. I’d like to manage this through Group Policy, either built-in or through registry changes.I’ve spent hours looking online, but I haven’t had any luck. I already know how to set IE as the “Custom User Interface” and set auto-login through the registry applied through GPO. This is the last piece I’m missing. If anyone can help me out that would be great! Continue reading...

When I attempt to open a .htm or .html file saved on the local drive (C:\), it loads a blank page in IE8 and then immediately disappears before prompting "Do you want to save this file?" and offering the Save or Cancel options. It will not display the page. This occurs on every locally stored .htm or .html files. Those same files open locally in other browsers, such as Firefox, without issue. I have already tried doing a Reset of the Internet options, ensuring the HKCR registry options for .htm and .html reflect 'htmlfile' for the default values, and using a Freeware Fix IE utility to repair the IE8 install. None of these efforts have resolved the issue. I did not n…

Hi Microsoft! Just wondering when Windows 7 Service Pack 2 is looking to be released? Running Windows Update after a fresh install of Windows 7 w/ SP1 (or worse, Windows 7 w/o SP1) is starting to get somewhat time consuming. Got to think this is in the pipeline so was wondering what your target date for release was. Thanks! Chuck Continue reading...

I have an AMD FX-8150 8 core Processor in a desktop machine. Windows will not load. At times it willgive me a line of code which equates to a blue screen. Other time the hard drive will spin but nothing else happens. I have changed the bios to a four processor, very slow machine but that does nothing for the problem. Ubuntu 12.04 will load easily. I want to use this machine as a test machine for Windows 8. A number of time Windows will send me a virus message as a reason for the failure. The hard drive is formatted to NTFS with nothing on it. I have used a 300GB and a 1000 GB with the same results. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Continue reading...

I know this question has been asked previously - How can I lock the month calendar view as default? The answer given is that " Whenever you go back to your Calendar it should come back in the view it was in when you left it." Well, mine did not remember the last view whether in the same session or a new one and I know others have the same problem. Does anybody have some fresh insight? If we can lock email and contact views why not calendar? This is a prblem which has followed me from Outlook 2007 to 2010 Continue reading...
