My Windows Update Error 8000FFFF error message was received when I clicked the Icon in my desktop tray to conduct the automatic Windows Update. A dialog box appeared from the following: Control Panel --> System and Security --> Windows Update The message read: Some updates were not installed 9 updates failed Error(s) found: Code 8000FFFF Windows Update encountered an unknown error I went to Microsoft "Fix It" and conducted a search on this error. When I bought the computer, these were the properties I supposedly had: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Intel 4CPU 2.8 Ghz 2.79Ghz, .99GB Ram After Guruaid.com "cleaned" my computer, I've had a LOT of problems. While fixing these, I noticed that I only have Service Pack 1 installed now. I know that I have to install the Service Pack 2 app to be able to reinstall the Service Pack 3 that I'm supposed to have. Apparently, my system is a 32 bit, which should be compatible with Service Pack 3. There is no mention of whether it's 32 bit or 64 bit in the Properties WIndow, so I'm assuming it's a 32 bit. hello, im having trouble with my desk top not responding to anything i click on after a while. the mouse still moves freely but nothing will open. i have the dump ram cache short cut but not sure if thats the real issue with it. have done virus scans, malware, spyware. comes up with nothing wrong. any suggestions or ideas of what it could be? It seemed like w/ Vista there was the option to change the location of where my downloads would go. I can't seem to find a way on settings to change the location of downloads. Every time I download something I have to go "computer" and then click on downloads. Is there a way to change this on Windows 7? Thanks for your help! View the thread

The process svchost.exe is using a lot of memory and CPU. It goes up to and over 300K. The services it deals with are BITS, EventSystem, Nla, RasMan, SENS, TapiSrv, W32Time, and winmgmt. This may or not be related, but the same time this started, AVG stopped a few threats, mainly blackhole viruses, or something like that. Also, there's sometimes shutdowns if I don't end the svchost.exe process, although, this gets a bit annoying, since it turns my taskbar white... Also, the process doesn't seem to end. So, I was wondering if any of those services might be the cause of my issues, and how to deal with that said service. The sooner, the better. I have a feeling this…

Before we had to clean up a virus from my Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop, my desktop "items" were all arranged the way I needed them to be for me to refer to quickly.Afterwards, right now, they do not stay in the positions I place them in - top left top right in categories, etc. They are ALL on the left side, top to bottom completely mixed up! Hi all, I got a laptop yesterday with Windows 7 64 bit. I wanted to change the default installation directory from C (my SSD with limited storage) to a larger drive (F). I ran regedit and followed steps HERE. That didn't seem to work. I recently tried running regedit again and got the error message "C:Windowsregedit.exe The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." If I try to run rstrui.exe, the same error message appears. It seems like I can't use any run line commands without this error message. As soon as Windows displays my desktop (and before all the icons are in place), I get a window asking me to choose which program to open "chkupd." Note: it is not called "chkupd.exe," but just "chkupd." I ran a search looking for any files with "chkupd" in the name and Search found none in my entire computer (I had set my settings to allow searching hidden files and folders.). What does this mean?
