As container adoption continues to grow, there is more scrutiny than ever on container supply chains. A container image from an unknown source could include vulnerabilities and malicious code injected by bad actors. To mitigate container supply chain threats, enterprises and open-source communities are exploring safeguards. Signing container images enables software consumers to detect tampering and ensure the authenticity of the containerized workloads. Notary Project is a set of specifications and tools that provides cross-industry standards for securing software supply chains through signing and verification, signature portability, and key/certificate management.…

Background This article describes how to aggregate the Azure Storage logs collected using the Diagnostic settings in Azure Monitor when selecting an Azure Storage Account as destination. This approach downloads the logs and aggregates them on your local machine. Please keep in mind that in this article, we only copy the logs from the destination storage account. They will remain on that storage account until you delete them. At the end of this article, you will have access to a CSV file that will contain the information for the current log structure (e.g.: timeGeneratedUTC, resourceId, category, operationName, statusText, callerIpAddress, etc.). Yesterday, our customer reported that they have a routing path using a VPN client and always identify the public IP instead of the private IP of the VPN. Besides of VPN client configuration, I would like to share my lesson learned how is possible to identify the IP source that the connection is using in a simply way. PING Definition: PING (Packet INternet Groper) is a computer network diagnostic tool used to test the reachability of a host on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. It also measures the round-trip time for messages sent from the originating host to a destination computer. How it works: PING operates by sending Internet Control Message Prot…

AutoML for Images and AutoML for NLP, part of Azure Machine Learning (AzureML), are solutions that help to seamlessly build Machine Learning models for computer vision and natural language tasks. As a user, you only need to bring in the labeled data, and AutoML will find the best model for that dataset. Users can opt for an automated search or define specific models and hyperparameters for AutoML to explore. While the existing array of models in AutoML encompasses a wide range in both vision and NLP, the AI landscape is moving at an astonishing pace, continually introducing novel architectures and models. Established platforms such as Hugging Face and MMDetection o…

In January 2023 we announced the decision to delay the final decommissioning date for Outlook REST API v2.0 and corresponding beta endpoints. This was done as a response to signals and feedback received from our customers who required more time to achieve a successful migration to Microsoft Graph. At that time, we did not define a new decommissioning date. Today, we are announcing that we will fully deprecate Outlook REST v2.0 and beta endpoints on March 31st, 2024. After this date, every call to the Outlook REST v2.0 and beta endpoints will result in a HTTP 404 (Not Found error) with a deprecation message in the error response. This will only be active for 60 d…

Azure is Microsoft’s cloud computing offering which provides IaaS (infra as a service) virtual machines (VM), PaaS (platform as a service) containers and many other SaaS services (e.g., Azure Storge, Networking, etc.). Azure, being one of the largest cloud service providers, hosts millions of customer virtual machines (VMs) in our data centers. The operating system that runs on these hosts is a modified version of Windows called Cloud Host. I talked about this and the Azure Host OS architecture (incl. the root OS and the hypervisor) in an earlier blog post. In this blog post we will talk about how we update the operating system that runs on those hosts, in particular, a n…

Azure Storage lifecycle management (LCM) provides a rule-based policy enabling you to efficiently transition data between access tiers or expire it upon reaching the end of its lifecycle. These policies can be applied to a base blob, and optionally, to the blob's versions or snapshots. In this article, we'll delve into troubleshooting LCM Prefix issues and identifying common misconfigurations. Understanding PrefixMatch PrefixMatch is a pivotal component of Azure Storage LCM, wherein a prefix is defined to match specific blobs or containers. Web App for Containers is a lightweighted way to manage app by docker image. CD (Continuous Deployment) is a common way to pull the updated docker image from docker registry (such as Azure Continer Registray or Docker Hub etc) to App Service automatically. While if App Service enables Private Endpoint, the webhook from container registry should be blocked with 403 since the public access to the App Service kudu site (advanced tool site) is blocked by default. And when webhook event is trying sent to app service via Private Endpoint, it should fail with IP forbidden. With the situation, this blog provide a workaround by allowing webhook IP to access App Service k…
