In this article, I will share with you the steps needed to copy your Azure SQL database from one of servers to another on a different subscription and different tenant (Microsoft Entra). Usually, it is the best approach when you have different subscriptions and tenants for different environments, like when you want to refresh your development or preprod with a new and up to date copy of your production database. 1. Both servers' firewalls must be configured to allow inbound connection from the IP of my machine: Make sure to enable public access and add my IP to both source and destination: 2. In the realm of biomedical research and healthcare analytics, one common task is the selection of specific cohorts of patients from larger datasets. These cohorts often serve as the foundation for various studies, clinical trials, and population analyses. The ability to construct patient cohort accurately and efficiently is crucial for gaining insights, conducting research, and improving patient care. There are several things specific to the healthcare field that make cohort generation more challenging. Many datasets have restricted access and, in some cases, even data schemas are not available to researchers. Also, a dataset might contain Protected Health Inform…

When dealing with data migration or integration tasks, it's common to encounter transient issues that may cause the process to fail. One common tool used for data migration is the Bulk Copy Program (BCP) in SQL Server. In this blog post, we will discuss how to implement a retry logic for BCP commands in a Linux environment, to handle temporary failures and ensure data is transferred successfully. Creating a Sample Table and Data File: Before we proceed with the retry logic, let's first create a sample SQL Server table and a text file with data to be imported. Sample SQL Server Table: CREATE TABLE MyTable2 ( ID INT PRIMARY KEY, Name VARCHAR(50)…

In March 2023, we announced the general availability of the Single to Flex migration tool. Since then, we have seen many successful migrations and over 10K+ single servers migrate to Azure Database for PostgreSQL – Flexible Server. After reviewing migrations, we noticed that pre-migration setup process can prove to be a formidable obstacle. More than a third of the attempted migrations failed due to setup issues. Networking hiccups, authentication issues, permissions problems are some of the common setup issues faced by many customers. Though many customers were able to fix these issues and run successful migrations, we felt the need to address this gap in the mig…

Layers enable users to organize multiple elements of a diagram and control which ones are seen, hidden, locked, or unlocked with just a few clicks. The Visio desktop app has long supported layers, and now Visio for the web does, too. Users with a Visio Plan 1 or Visio Plan 2 license can now use layers to group a related set of shapes in a drawing and change properties of all the layer members at once. Example user scenario: Network diagrams Tomás, a network security architect for a global financial firm, is one of a dozen members of the firm’s enterprise architecture team in charge of meticulously designing network architectures that are efficient, reliable, …

It’s my great pleasure to be back to present another accessibility-themed skilling snack. Voice access is a new feature in Windows 11, version 22H2 and later that enables everyone, including people with mobility disabilities, to control their PC using only their voice. After initial setup, it even works without an internet connection. And while today, it’s only available for six dialects of English, support for further languages is coming soon. As an IT pro, this is a feature I encourage you to lean in and learn more about. Help your users be aware of it and be an ally when you come across someone who may benefit from its features. In the fast-paced world of software development, the ability to swiftly and accurately translate client needs into tangible product features is a critical success factor. This process begins with the often-detailed discussions and conversations that help define project requirements. However, managing and extracting actionable insights from these discussions can be a time-consuming and error-prone task. But what if you could streamline and automate this process, saving both time and resources while ensuring a higher degree of precision? Welcome to the world of end-to-end automation, where we bridge the gap from requirement discussion transcripts to Azure DevOps feat…

If you've been working with Azure OpenAI for a while, chances are you've heard of Semantic Kernel. It is a library implemented in multiple programming languages that can handle prompt templates, manage conversation state, integrate with plugins and many other features essential to building an advanced LLM-infused application. But how exactly do you "deploy" Semantic Kernel? Being a software library, Semantic Kernel can be deployed to any compute option capable of running Python, C# or Java. You've probably seen sample repositories with Jupyter notebooks you can use to explore the functionality. But in most cases you can't give your end-users a notebook! In this art…

Microsoft Teams Rooms is designed to deliver the most inclusive and collaborative hybrid meeting experience across shared spaces of all sizes. Some organizations opt for a less formal set-up, offering “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) spaces, where employees bring their laptops into a room to connect to a display or projector, and, in some cases, a speakerphone and camera. When using these BYOD rooms to attend meetings, users often find themselves wanting a better meeting experience. Customers tell us that they haven’t upgraded these rooms to a full Teams Rooms experience due to prohibitive installation costs and limited budget for new investments. We now have a solution for…

The SQL Server TDS protocol provides two main paths for query execution (Language and RPC events.) You can trace these events using the Batch::Starting/Completed (Language) and RPC:Starting/Completed (RPC) XEvents. Language events are text streams requiring full parsing and may be susceptible to injection attacks. Language events also require educated guesses. For example, should select 1 return a smallint, bigint? Example: SQLExecDirect(“sp_who 50”) SQL Server receives Type=Language Query=”sp_who 50” SQL Server must parse the query, make an educated guess for the data type of 50 and then execute the command. Injection attack exampl…

Scenario Sometimes we need to use Graph API to upload files, normally the API has limitation in file size for a single request. Since we have to pass binary object in Graph API request body, we need to find a way to split binary object into small pieces and upload it one by one. Mechanism In Logic App, when we print a binary object, it will be converted as base64 string and also we have an expression to convert from base64 to binary (Reference guide for expression functions - Azure Logic Apps). The alternative way is that we can simply use “Substring” expression to take partial of the base64 string and convert it back to binary. As w…
