After our recent announcement about the release of the new Outlook on Windows 11, we have received many questions about features that are coming to the new app. The new Outlook for Windows is the future for both the Mail and Calendar apps in Windows and the classic Outlook for Windows. Firstly, I would like to thank Benjamin Kovacevic and Yael Bergman for their help with this article. While the existing Sentinel GCP Pub/Sub Audit Logs connector documented here provides a way to ingest GCP platform audit logs, ingesting GCP Firewall logs or VPS logs remains a needed capability. In this blog post I will show a simple way to ingest Google Cloud GCP Firewall logs or VPS logs. In order to do this ingestion, I have utilized the Log Ingestion API with PowerShell to accomplish this. Note: The code provided in this post is just a sample provided AS-IS. Further code optimization and additions could be added as required. Follow…

Heya folks, Ned here again. Starting with Windows 11 Insider preview Build 25992 (Canary), the SMB client now supports connecting to an SMB server over TCP, QUIC, or RDMA using alternative network ports. Today I'll explain how to configure this and talk about the near future of this in Windows and Windows Server Insiders a bit. Previous port behaviors SMB server in Windows has required inbound connections using the IANA-registered port TCP/445 for decades, and the SMB TCP client has only supported connecting outbound to that TCP port. The newer SMB over QUIC protocol requires the QUIC-mandated UDP/443, both for server and client. Until now these were hard-code…

Heya folks, Ned here again. Starting with Windows 11 Insider preview Build 25992 (Canary), creating SMB shares changes a longtime Windows Defender Firewall default behavior. Before Previously, creating a share automatically configured the firewall to enable the rules in the “File and Printer Sharing” group for the given firewall profiles. This began in Windows XP SP2 with the introduction of the then-new built in firewall, and the rule was designed for both SMB1 and ease of deployment of a wide array of SMB-using technology, including printing, legacy group policy, and others. Now Windows now automatically configures the new “File and Printer Shar…
