How can I lock my computer to unauthorized access? What good are passwords at OS X login if they can be circumvented with the CLI??? I'm a little ticked off right now. Hello, I have seagate M3 external hard drive, formatted in windows and with data on it. I was not able to mount it in win, not in linux. But device is recognized. I have replaced disk board with new one and it still not work. I'm a student with some experience in C++ using windows vs2010. The course I'm taking now, data structures using C++, is using the Linux environment. I'm having trouble with the transition. Compiling and linking a .h, main.cpp and a makefile, which is new to me until last week, is what I need help with. I'm wanting to use the vim editor because I have previous experience using it in an assembly language course. My data structures professor only uses the emacs editor. I 'm trying to set up up a wireless home network in Linux Debian. I used to run an adhoc wireless network under Windows. One terminal would share its internet connection over the network. This had worked well until I had to update the wireless hardware. I had decided to install a wireless hotspot purchased through my internet provider (telus). Hi all As the name of board states, I am a newbie. I know little about linux and bash scripting but am trying to learn. I have been reading alot on line and trying things. What I am trying to do is perform a memory dump on a live process. I have come across several scripts that approach the task but I really don't know what to look for. I just installed Rosa, and I'm really impressed so far. But ever since I changed my video driver to the proprietary Nvidia driver I boot to a prompt rather than the KDE gui. I tried to install mint and various other distros [including ubuntu] through live USB keys a couple of weeks ago, and despite the fact they worked on many other labtops and computers, mine wouldn't even recognise them. I was told, after checking my BIOS setup that it was probably an issue with my USB ports and to try with a disc at another time. Burning an iso with my sisters laptop didn't really work out, be it her laptop or the DVD itself, but when I popped into my local easons, I spotted one of the magazines with a disc completely with three distros to try, amongst them, Mint 16. When doing scans, gimp does a lovely job of slightly enhancing the resulting scan from the menu: tools->color tools->levels and then pressing the 'auto' button. Does anyone know an ImageMagick equivalent for this that I can include in the scan script I already use, without having to fire up gimp on each scan? Hi there, Ever since i bought my Surface RT i haven't been able to login to the store, install or update any apps, the error message i get is that i'm not connected to the internet - which i am since i surf and send emails and stream - and i tried with different accounts, which work fine when i login from an internet browser, i tried erasing the cache and it still doesn't work, everything is updated and fine. My windows is running a check disk whenever I start my computer. The drive has songs and photos in it. But the computer runs the check disk always on start up. The message says " One of your drive needs to be checked for consistency. You can skip this by clicking any key. But it is strongly recommended that you continue". I am running XP professional with service pack 3. I have always used outlook express for my emails. I use multiple identies. Over a week ago, outlook express started taking longer and longer to open an email in the preview pane. For about a week now, it has not opened any messages in the preview pane at all. I have about three identities that have thousands of emails but most of them have under 1000. But every identity has the same problem. There is nothing wrong with the set up/layout, checked all that. Hello all, First of all I have to say I'm very happy with my new keyboard, but unfortunately there is one malfunction that is rather annoying. The malfunction that I'm experiencing is that whenever I have a program selected other then Windows Media Player and try to start the player with the pause/play button it has a success rate of about 25% that it will, the other 3 out of 4 times, it crashes to the desktop. When I'm playing a full-screen application, it gives no crash message. I have a lot of Photos on memory sticks which are in PhotoDeluxe format pdd,, an old, now unsupported format by adobe. They have downloaded to my surface RT fine but I cannot view them. Ideally I would then convert them to jpg. No apps in the store and although I've found several downloads online, I'm reluctant to download anything that might be suspect. My prior company used Gmail, I set this account up on my RT, but since leaving, they disabled the Gmail account, before I could remove it from my RT and the Mail app. So now, in order to remove it the only way the app itself knows, it tries to connect to it, but it can't, hence I can't remove it. I spoke with a Microsoft technical rep who even asked his supervisor for help on this, and none of their suggestions worked. My asus vivotab rt TF600T shuts down when i put it to sleep. After about 15 seconds that i push the power button to put the tab to sleep it completly shuts down. I dont know why. I've tried to changing the settings from the desktop on the power option to just sleep. But everytime i put the tab to lseep it just turns off. Is this a problem with the software or hardware?
