I would really like to play some precious videos on my Surface RT that were taken on a home camcorder of my late Mother which are .MOI and .MOD files. When I try to play them I receive an error message saying format not supported. However, a pop up message does indicate that there is an application available which will play these files. Does anyone know which one I need to instal, there are so many in the Windows Store to choose from, how am I to know which one will work? I am trying to upgrade to Windows 8.1 from 8. When I click on the app it says I need administrator rights to upgrade. I am the only one who uses the computer, and when I go into settings it shows that I have administrator rights. Does anyone have any suggestions? Continue reading...

I purchased an ASUS D550M notebook earlier this week, and the two-finger scroll had been working fine up until today when it all of a sudden stopped. The pinch-zoom function also stopped working, but the tap-to-click is still working. I am running Windows 8 (what the computer came with), so I don't think it's a compatibility issue. Fixes? As a university student it is devastating to have Microsoft Office deleted. I was not able to log into my computer, without first refreshing it. Then when it was all said and done I had lost everything. All my school work. ALL. It's awful. Totally unacceptable. Are any files retrievable? I am a struggling students and can not afford to repurchase Microsoft Office at this time. Can Bill Gates, or the new guy, or anyone else at Microsoft give me back my software? While setting up a new PC running Windows-7, I set up an Administrator User (Account A) and a temporary Standard User (Account B) for checking the system. Hi, I am trying to fathom out what is occuring with my pc, I have a picture file which I am trying to place onto a USB stick but I only wish this to be read only when placed on there so that none of the file details can be changed ie author copyright information changed etc. I have tried setting this to read only this works however when I then copy this onto the USB stick Now the properties are not editable However if i now move / copy the file to a USB drive .. it has the same priviliges ie all the person has to do is click the read only check box to turn this off and then they can edit the properties. I have an iMac with 10.6.8. DSL. This is not a problem with a particular browser. All three (firefox, safari, chrome) yield the same results, i.e. nothing. Or to be specific, "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" (Firefox) "Safari can't open the page. / ...the server unexpectedly dropped the connection." "No data received." (Chrome) This happened right after I attempted to install an older version of Avira AV for Mac (version 1.0) The system shows that I have a strong internet connection through either ethernet cable or Airport. I used to have a mid-2010 iMac and used Target Display Mode with my PC Video card. The cable was a mini displayport (plugged into the iMac) to Mini DisplayPort (plugged into my video card). This same cable plugged into my Thunderbolt won't work. No video from the PC. I recently procrastinated for the second time about trying Linux. 10 years ago I was given a set of CDs and 2 inch thick manual for RedHat. I dare not, at the time, risk my one machine with it. Now I have 3 machines with win XP and the eventual prospect of more MS saga has swung the balance.
