Sorry for posting again, but I'm getting no help. I have a Windows 8 Pro, 64-bit OS, running Office Outlook 2010 32-bit. Up until last week, when I went to send a fax, Windows Fax/Scan would bring up all of my OL contacts, from which I could choose a recipient. A few days ago, this stopped, and instead I get directed to my Windows Contacts folder, which has nothing in it. I've confirmed that OL is my default email program, and that OL is set as the default program to open all files and protocols that it can by default. This is extremely frustrating. It's Feb 2014 and I have this same "games pending" issue as others have reported. I followed the steps as others suggested and I've found command prompt but as soon as I enter step 1 of the alleged solution, this is what happens: Command prompt defaults to C:\users\derek> so I type in: net stop wuauserv and I get a system error 5 saying "access denied". Using Windows Live Mail, I get the following pop-up after my emails are received "The server you connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified. The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value. I have 2 email address that used to work, however when I try to send them an email, I get the following message "some of the recipients in the message are not valid", and the email won't go through. Could anyone please tell me whether or not the following antivirus and antispyware products are compatible with the new 8.1 Windows operating system: Avira, MSE and MalwareBytes Antimalware? Ok, So I turned on my computer to find that on the action center there were 2 "important messages" one said: "Update virus protection (Important)" and the other one said "update spyware protection (Important)". Both led me to windows defender where at first it was doing its update really fast and well but right before it could reach the other side of the bar to complete the update it got really slow and just stopped and did not finish it. I tried again and then it does not even make it half way through before just stopping and returning me back to the windows defender screen. I have windows defender and have run a full system scan. No virus or malware found. But when I use mozilla firefox, chrome, or explorer I still get pop ups of various ads. I don't know what to do. I downloaded a game from MSN games and along with it came this little problem. It seems to have replaced my start page, which use to be my MSN page and replaced it with this <start.msn.iplay.com> search..........it seems to have hijacked my start up page in IE. On advice from a popular website I downloaded and ran an App called Monolingual to free up around 2GB of hard-disk space by removing unwanted languages from the OS (obviously leaving the English languages unchecked) I now discover the following problems: (i) Mail appears to be functioning normally until I open an individual email and try and reply or forward, whereupon the program instantly crashes, with the resulting info box giving me a long list of errors. Hey Its neel from India n I'm a new Macbook user. I am using 13" Core 2 duo Macbook 4,1 With 4GB Ram. The installed os virsion is Mac OSX 10.6.8. My antiquated eMac is slowing down. My guess is the hard drive is dying. Fortunately I hav a back up eMac to replace the first computer but I don't know how to transfer data from one computer to another. Hello, Does anyone have any suggestion as to how to automatically run fsck.msdos -n on a USB flash drive when it is plugged in? I am developing hardware that writes stuff to a USB stick and as you can imagine all kinds of bad stuff occasionally happens to the filesystem of the sticks that are inserted into the device when it is connected to the debugger. It would be very helpful to get immediate feedback when something is wrong to help simplify what can be a convoluted debugging process.
