I have a handfull of older Family Tree Maker data files that I need to convert to a readable format for use on the newer version 2008-2014 FTM programs. Ancestry.com says that Family Tree Maker 2005 SE (Starter Edition) has the capability to do this and provides the downloadable 2005 SE Installer file, ftm2005se.exe, which I placed on my desktop. Hi, I have a hp pavilion g6 2236tx laptop with preinstalled windows 8 on it. I have made a set of recovery disks with the help of hp support assistant . Even my friend has the same laptop with windows 8 preinstalled . He also made the recovery disk but unfortunately he lost them . Now due to some issues he changed his GPT hard drive into MBR and lost the data along with the pre installed winodws 8.Can I use my set of recovery disk to recover his laptop. will it be troublesome if I do that. Short version ;-) I was messing around with settings on my new Nokia 2520 ( windows RT 8.1 ), which I'd initially set up when I got it to mirror the personalisation settings on my older Surface ( windows RT 8.1 ), and managed to sync it to my desktop, which is a total mess, since I dont really look at the start screen and boot to desktop. I've gone onto my skydrive and deleted the sync'd backup from my desktop, so now there are only the Nokia ( pre mess up ) and Surface backups there. I have several error codes that appear when I try to reinstall the failed updates. I ran a fix it, have tried troubleshooter which always says there may be issues troubleshooting as an administrator. It says it fixes the problem, but it always re-occurs. I have tried installing them manually but no luck. I even tried installing three optional ones separately, but the same happens. When I first try to search for updates error 8024a000 arrives. I search again and it works. The updates have failed since 30.1.2014. Any advice would be appreciated . Thank you. Continue reading...

I just had my old computer (desk top) crash. I knew it was going to so I transferred all my information to an external hard drive. I bought a dell 2020 with windows 8, Only bought it a few days ago. I would like to use the external drive to download my pictures, documents, etc but am not sure how to proceed. My old computer does not boot at all, that is why I had the external hard drive. When purchased PC it is gateway all in one desktop. It has windows 8 operation system which required me to create MS account in order for it to work properly. Now that I use Skype mostly from my windows 8 mobile device,the chats pop up on my PC. Once I get a base Windows 7 only image to actually deploy to a new box (I have a question about that in another thread) can someone tell me how to do add on images? I get the impression that I can install Microsoft Office for example and then grab an image of just that install and then create and image that just adds that application(s) to my base image that I store as part of one master image but with a different index. Is this correct? How does it grab just the newly installed files and changed operating system files and place it on a new box? I see this as a snapshot capturing process and yet I am not sure that is true. How are add on images done that are for …

I am trying to get a working solution for imaging our Windows 7 and 8 boxes. We have Intel bios and Intel UEFI boxes. We do not have a Micorsoft network or active directory so WDS is not an option. I have made several WinPE 4 and 5 boot usb sticks and they work. I can pull an image from the box and upload it to a share or external usb drive using ImageX, Dism, and GimageX. So far what I have had very very very limited success with is getting the computer with the new image to boot after getting imaged. I purchased a CineRaid Hard Drive enclosure. This is just a box that is connected to my computer via USB3 and allows me to hot swap sata drives. Each time I shutdown and start up those drives disappear under my computer. I then have to go into computer management tool and reassign them a drive letter. Tech support says they have never had this issue before. Can anyone tell me if I am missing a setting or something that might help this issue. I recently disabled Windows Defender because I have a better antivirus program on my laptop and do not want any redundant programs draining my computer's resources. Anyway, my problem is I am still receiving the updates for Windows Defender, which itself is not a problem, because I want my other Windows updates to continue. But I would just like to know how one may selectively choose not to update Defender (if this is possible) and get rid of the update notice that keeps popping up in my system tray. Thank you. On 2 20, 2014 I received a phone call from someone who stated they a Microsoft Tech and that they were getting a report from my computer that it was infected with a malware virus that was corrupting all my files.
