Last fall (2013), I was contacted by Adobe and informed that my personal information had been compromised. Almost immediately I was scammed by a "Microsoft Partner" called SysTweak for $300.00 to "repair my computer" .Among other things my computer was hacked by Browser redirector http//Aartemis.com, they are all connected to 22Find.Com or at least, working in cahoots. I tried in vain to resolve the problem myself but was not even able to load a webpage until I agreed to SysWeaks offer. I'm still curiou to know, especially since they flouted their "Microsoft Partner" affiliation, how they had access to my personal information. They are out of India and some work out…

Had Norton Anti-virus installed previously but allowed this to expire. When I wanted to turn Windows Defender back on I wasn't able to. Followed the instructions to turn it back on but got the following message: "This program's service has stopped. You can start the service manually or restart your computer, which will start the service. (Error code: 0x800106ba)". Anyone recognise this error message and know what's going on? How do I get Windows Defender back working again?? Continue reading...

Hi; I recently provided my wife with a Windows 8.1 laptop, (what a nice guy I am), and I will be her initial "go to" guy for any help she needs. I know 8.1 includes Windows Defender and was wondering if that is sufficient as an antimalware/antivirus program by itself. The reason I am curious is that in the past I know two antivirus programs couldn't be or shouldn't be run on the same computer but today many new Windows 8/8.1 computers come with a trial version of Norton or McAfee installed. I have had great success with Microsoft Security Essentials in the past and have run it on my own computer since it was a Beta version and have had excellent protection. I want…

As soon as the Windows February 2014 update was installed on my computer, WIndows Defender no longer stayed on after a restart. Now, every time, I get a action center warning about my computer not being secure. Its a minor inconvenience. There are no other changes to the software set on my computer I haven't installed anything new in February. I have only Malware Bytes installed as extra software, and it ran together with windows defender for many months until the feb 2014 update, and windows defender always stayed on after restarting. Malware Bytes hasn't been updated since last year. I have searched everywhere in security settings and Windows Defender setting for …

I have seen that there are loads of people out there with exactly the same problem, but no real solution as of yet. Just questions which are irrelevant to the problem unfortunately. I have windows 7, using both Internet Exlporer and Chrome. Everytime I try to download something it starts to download and when close to 100%, it changes to Failed - Virus scan failed. It is happening all of the time, with EVERYTHING. 1. files and attachments from my email which I know are safe - am using outlook, web and also have desktop client. 2. photographs - have tried my own photos from my sky drive / one drive, have tried images from internet. 3. Even tried …

Original Title: DaReally? My computer has been invaded by a trojan, with Microsoft Security Essentials. I have been monitoring the activities, but have been unable to stop the invader from destroying the user ID. I am in the process of trying to recover the User, but am having extreme difficulties. Microsoft is extremely inept and hope to see them in bankruptcy. They do nothing for protection and should limit their activities to games. This is very frustrating and have never ever recieved help from Microsoft, except after they asked for $360/hr service fee.<Removed due to CoC voilation> Continue reading...

Hello, I've been using emacs for a number of years and am now starting to get interested in the LISP interface or writing simple code in list to apply to the emacs environment. I've had a couple of problems. When I compile with 'clisp' I get a module that is some kind of general byte (a .fas extension), but it doesn't seem to be able to link it to an executable. Any lisp wizards that can give me an idea of what I need to do? I have written in many languages and link them, so I understand the basic use of compiler/linker. Don't seem to be able to apply them to lisp and then to their use in emacs. Also, how put it in the default config file ~/.emacs to set it up each…

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has just been announced and it includes a 5.1-inch 1080p screen along with Android 4.4.2 KitKat, 16 or 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, and specs aside, a swipe-style fingerprint scanner, a heart-rate monitor, and more. As you'd expect, Android Central has already posted their Samsung Galaxy S5 hands-on: Our main takeaway from our brief time with the Galaxy S5 so far is that Samsung is has been listening to customers and critics alike, and has finally gotten around to addressing many of our gripes with its build quality, software and UI. It's still a plastic phone, and a plastic phone running TouchWiz at that, but the GS5 represents a clear improve…

In the mobile gaming world, Game Insight is pretty much the king of city builders. We’ve covered the Russian publisher’s futuristic entry 2020: My Country in the past, but their history with the genre goes back farther than that. One of their early hits was 2012’s The Tribez, in which players built a city for a tribe of primitive inhabitants. Today Game Insight follows up with a new installment, The Tribez and Castlez! This one takes the game into medieval fantasy setting – as well as throwing in some tower defense gameplay that you wouldn’t usually find in the city building genre. It’s out now and free on iOS. Over the weekend Comcast announced a "mutually beneficial interconnection arrangement" with Netflix that should improve the quality of Netflix streaming for Comcast customers. While it's raised alarms, it's also provoked a few article writers to declare this another nail in the coffin for net neutrality. As usual, the truth is much more complicated. Comcast and Verizon have both been in the public crosshairs because Netflix streaming has been demonstrably more trouble-prone for customers of both Internet service providers — frequent buffering issues or errors connecting, for example. Netflix's internet service provider, Cogent, says that both ISPs are refusing to open …
