Hi, Having issues with the latest release of MSE and the real-time protection engine. When attempting to connect to a VPN network, the connect to network box hangs and takes about 30 seconds to show up (also indicates that the program "connect to a network" is not responding in task manager). It also takes 1minute+ to then connect to the network. During this process MsMpEng.exe has high cpu usage which is obviously causing this slowdown. When I disable real-time protection in MSE (or uninstall) I don't have any hangs or slowdowns. Is there a process or file I can add to the mse exclusions list to avoid these issues? Thanks. Kubuntu 12.04 I'm hoping that someone knows of a simple way to change the color of the page tabs in the Panel. I would like them to be more obvious rather than the gray color that they are now. I looked at the options in System Settings >Application Appearance and Workspace Appearance but have not found a way to make that change. Is it possible to change those colors? I am trying to develop an operating system for hardware manufacturers who might want to use it to for an e-book device. At the moment I have a prototype built using Raspberry Pi and a small 2.7 inch e-ink display. I am able to write python programs that can parse a book in text file and write to the e-ink display using a python library that comes with the e-ink manufacturer. My goal is write a simple GUI so that users can select books they want to read. I have looked into existing GUI library for python but they are too complicated for e-ink display. And, usually these programs are not written for an embedded system in mind. I'd like to write an OS that can go to s…

Howdy, I am trying to get linux up and running for me for the very first time, but having problems. I am using an Asus K52JR laptop running windows 7 64bit, and I created a USB stick bootable with Linux live. My disk is partitioned, so booting with the USB I installed Ubuntu 13.10 to my empty partition. Well, It almost installed. Went through all the step until I got to the part where I get the progress bar where you see all the files installing. And once the progress bar completed my computer went to a black screen with a few lines of writing in the top left corner and then the computer shut itself off! So I restarted and I was taking to Grub where I have the o…

And yet another Monday liveblog from Mobile World Congress where Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to give a keynote address on, well, whatever he wants. Zuckerberg's actually a fairly compelling speaker, and this should be a good one. What to expect? Probably not any new Facebook phone announcements, folks. Instead, look broader topics that have to do with the Internet, social connectivity and the world in general. We're liveblogging this one starting at 6 p.m. CET — that's noon in New York and 9 a.m. on the West Coast. Join us! Continue reading...

iPhone 6 fantasies will no doubt reach fetishistic levels at some point, but we're far enough out from the fall, and from the inevitable leaks that will come as fall approaches, that many possibilities, many dreams, remain open to us. What with the all the new Android phones at MWC dropping like cluster bombs this week, I'll admit I'm incredibly eager to see what Apple has planned for this year as well. I'll preface it by saying all I've heard so far is that there'll likely be two iPhones this year, a 4-inch model and a bigger than 4-inch model. Whether that's the iPhone 5s dropped down, an iPhone 5sc made unabashedly plastic, or simply a smaller iPhone 6 remains to be se…

Late last year saw AT&T adding international LTE roaming in Canada and the UK, and today they're adding 13 mote nations to the list. If the added services are treated in the same way as AT&T's deals with EE in the UK and Rogers in Canada, the rates charged for the "Data Global" add-ons won't change with the addition of LTE services, though AT&T did not say if that would be the case in their press release. AT&T put a full list of the countries where you'll be able to get LTE speeds while roaming starting today: Today, AT&T has expanded its international LTE footprint to now include Spain, France, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Hong Kong, Switzerla…

  14. I’m here at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, attending the annual RSA Conference USA 2014. There’s a great crowd here and many valuable discussions. Our Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) engineering teams have been working hard on the next version of EMET, which helps customers increase the effort attackers must make to compromise a computer system.

I finally got it back to IE8 and attempted update to SP3 at which time I got the error code above. I found the thread posted by 1978jag on 9/22/12 and the answer that followed posted by tricky300 on the same date. I followed the link and made 3 attempts to run the update - all failed. I just got a Surface RT today, booted it up, went through the process. I don't know if this is supposed to happen, but the only apps I have are word, excel, etc. I tried opening the store but all that happens is the splash screen for a few seconds then it closes. I noticed it also does that with the "Settings" app. So, I don't even have the camera app. I tried using the search to find updates but when I see search for updates I can't open the settings app. Anyone seen this before? I'm on my third attempt to upgrade to Win 8.1 from Win 8. Each time, the screen goes black before the install completes. The issue appears to be the Intel HD graphics driver. I've tried using HP's latest Intel HD graphics driver Version 9.17.10.2857, 2012-11-16. I've tried 10.18.10.3379 12/18/2013 which is an automatic update from MS (Win 8) All the versions of the Intel HD driver work in Windows 8 It appears that many others have the same issue. What is going on with 8.1 to cause this? How do I upgrade to Win 8.1? Thanks Continue reading...

Win 8-64 bit HyBrid SSD drive with Intel Rapid Storage I'm running Windows 8 with on a HP laptop (HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition) with a hyBrid SSD drive with Intel Rapid Storage (accelerator enabled). It doesn't appear possible to recover from a problem with this combination. Shift -F8 does not work (There is no boot drive.) Restore point does not work (Repair cannot find a restore point) Recovery disk does not work (see screenshot) The drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again Can MS address this issue. This is not an uncommon configuration. Yes you could turn off acceleration and refresh would work but…
