Adobe deny this Search Protect program by Conduit was downloaded with the updates. This is the only installation that could be responsible. It took another Malware program to remove the conduit Malware - including whatever was blocking the Control panel uninstall for the program. I will wait and see if all the malicious Conduit items have in fact been removed........ Continue reading...

I made my annual visit to Adobe to update some files, and found a grim notice. They are shutting down their Workspaces feature at the end of 2014 and advising all users to copy out anything we want to keep. I didn't read all the fine print, but I suspect they're moving to a subscription model. The "free" model doesn't appeal much to the bean counters. So I have to find another way to display PDF's on a website. I don't need a load of frills - basically just a way to move from page to page. I tried Google-Docs, but the resolution sucks. My documents do contain images and I don't want them to appear too fuzzy. Any recommendations? Continue reading...

This should really read Python noob but at the time I posted this I was considering PHP instead of Python :( - I am stationed at a Windows 8 station - The script will be set to run from an EC2 of Linux - I need Python to log in to a godaddy FTP we have setup (using username and password) or out to our EC2 Linux instance on our AWS again username and password) - Needs to search the root directory for newest files based on date... There are also specific naming conventions different clients use, but I assume via date will be much easier for when clients misname things - These files need to be moved from the FTP over to our cloud storage (cloud storage = Egnyte, the…

I had such a very bad day today, trying to install Linux on my new laptop. First, it's very annoying trying to start Linux from my USB flash drive. No matter what I do, it always starts with Windows 8. I even have trouble getting into BIOS setup as Windows 8 automatically loads itself. Googling about it, I found a way to boot from my USB flash drive. I have successfully booted and installed Ubuntu 13.10 from my USB flash drive. First thing I've done after successful install is to update Ubuntu. After the updated, restarted laptop, got into login, then got stuck on black screen with only my mouse pointer. Restarted again, got into login prompt, then stuck again…

After all my searching, I've found more information about macros than I'll ever need to know, but I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Basically, I'd like to create a global keystroke combination (Alt+Ctrl+E+R for example), that will execute a system command regardless of what I happen to be doing. It's like this; every now and again the display on my laptop will fart out on me, and all I can see is a bunch of white lines and a large black square where the mouse pointer is. The only way to get my display back quickly is to reboot, and just hitting the power button is no good for the system. So, I'd like to be able to hit Alt+Ctrl+E+R and have it execute the…

The build-outs of the LTE networks of AT&T and Verizon in the United States have hit the point where they're covering smaller cities in 4G radio signals. In fact, just today Ma Bell announced that they're flipping the switch to turn on AT&T LTE coverage in 12 municipalities around the United States, though the largest in this batch is Bismark, North Dakota, population: 65,000. There used to be a time when a single new LTE network meant millions were covered — now it takes a dozen new markets to cover a mere 300,000. We're on the long tail of the LTE coverage build-out now. The full list of new AT&T LTE coverage follows. Continue read…

Apple on Tuesday filed paperwork with the New York federal court to appeal a 2013 ruling that found the company in violation of antitrust laws regarding its iBooks publishing arrangements with major book publishers. Reuters: Apple filed its formal written arguments before the Second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, asking the appeals court to overturn the judgment in Apple's favor, or grant a new trial in front of a different judge. Apple and six book publishers were sued by the Department of Justice in 2010 over its ebook pricing. Last year Judge Denise Cote found Apple guilty of collusion with book publishers to raise ebook pricing. Rather than using a wholesal…

Yahoo News Digest initially launched at CES in January as a U.S. only product, but today it spreads its wings and brings twice daily doses of news to UK readers. Importantly, the content is tailored to the region, and so won't provide U.S. news you're perhaps not so interested in. Yahoo News Digest delivers all the top news for a UK audience twice a day, right to your mobile device. Our Digests provide a definitive summary of all the need-to-know news so you can stay on top of what’s happening. With the launch of the UK edition, Yahoo has also added weather and statistics 'atoms', and content is curated the same as in the U.S. app – algorithmically produced but…

I don't understand how packets are routed between individual computers on the local side of a home networking router and the outside world. I have 2 computers connected through a router to the outside world. On the local side of the router, their IP addresses are 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2. No problem there. Each computer is unique. But to the outside world, the IP address of both computers is the same, for example 76.90.8.95. I believe that IP address is determined by the ISP, TWC in this. So how can each computer receive TCP and UDP messages from the outside? ----- As you know, all incoming messages will have the same IP address 76.90.…

When I did a repair install I got many copy errors but I did another one with a freshly burned disc and this time only got one error to copy ICWCONN1.EX_ or ICWCONN2.EX_, one of the two. I have many components missing so I try to install via appwiz.cpl to install accessories and utilities which are missing but it keeps reporting file copy errors of various, random files on the CD. I copied the CD to a folder on the HDD but it still refused to accept them. What is going on? The files are not corrupted. Continue reading...

I am trying to pair the Microsoft Wedge Touch Mouse with a Surface RT running Windows 8. It takes a very long time to show up in the list of devices to pair. On the rare times it does show up and I hit pair, I get the message: "This didn't work. Try again and make sure your device is still discoverable." I've been on hold with Microsoft tech support for half an hour and I'm still listening to crappy music. Does anyone have any advice for me on how to fix this myself? Thanks in advance! I am having an issue with Windows 8 machines losing connection to Canon Printers. Everything is being run through our server and the issue is only affecting windows 8 and 8.1 machines. They lose connection to the printer (through the server) but the connection to the server is still good. In order to resolve the issue the printer has to be removed from the windows 8 unit, the windows 8 unit restarted and then reinstall the printer from the server. This has been a continual process and is quite a hassle to keep having to do. I was wondering if anyone has any in information on a fix. It would be a great relief. Again this is currently only an issue with Windows 8 and …
