It looks like yesterday's OS X Mavericks update removed the ability to force passwords to save in Safari when if a website requested that they not be saved. Previously, users could check a box in the Password section of the Safari settings that read "Allow Autofill for websites that request passwords not be saved". Why the setting was removed is unclear, and the release notes from the update only say "Improves AutoFill compatibility in Safari," with no mention of the removal. Are you disappointed with this removal? Let us know below in the comments. Thanks to Todd Mundt for the tip! Continue reading...

On Tuesday Apple pushed live OS X Mavericks 10.9.2. Among the changes are improvements to Apple's Mail app. Apple's certainly moved Mail in the right direction, but it hasn't solved everyone's problems. Are you one of them? Mail has had a tough row to hoe since the release of Mavericks last October. Users with Gmail accounts in particular have had loads of problems right from the start, not the least of which are exacerbated by Gmail's non-standard implementation of the IMAP protocol. Apple soon released a Mavericks Mail update that was meant to the address the problem. Then Apple released OS X 10.9.1 in January, and that was supposed to help Gmail users especially,…

Hi, The computer was infected (and still may be) with the Fake AV trojan. I booted into Safe Mode and ran Eset online scanner, Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes Antiroot kit. Eset found 77 infections, MWB found 338 and there were no rootkits found. I then rebooted into normal mode and ran Spybot 1.6.2, it found another 52 problems. Everything seemed fine until I ran Windows Update and it would not install an update for MSE (KB2902885), The error reported was 0x8004FF80. After doing research on the error, I found a Microsoft Fixit program that would assist in uninstalling MSE. It did not work. I attempted to do the "manual" method of removing MSE and after figuring out…

Testing filesize is exactly 45MB created by: dd if=/dev/zero of=test.dat bs=47185920 count=1 I created it on linux Debian, like that and its work fine: Code: #!/usr/bin/bash maxsize=50 actsize=$(du -b $1 | cut -f 1) if [ $actsize -ge $maxsize ]; then echo "size $actsize is over $maxsize" & exit 2 else echo "size is $actsize, its OK" fi but, on SUN OS doesnt work "du -b" so, i created somethink like that: Code: #!/usr/bin/bash maxsize=50 actsize=$(du -skh $1 | cut -f 1 | cut -c -4) if [ $actsize -ge $maxsize ]; then echo "size $actsize is over $maxsize" & exit 2 …

The rows are 123 pix tall and the top 4 are the suits in alphabetical order: clubs, diamonds, heart, and spades. The next 2 rows are misc addons: jokers, alternate Aces, card backs, and stuff. Works great with SDL. Anyone have anything similar? See attached. Attached Files img.tar.gz (279.9 KB) Continue reading...

Hi All - did a recommended update to my Mint 16 system which has been running perfectly. Now my i suddenly have one click mouse operation as well as total chaos at times. The mouse will seem as though I have selected something and when i move it starts dragging. I have seen this in the distant past, but unfortunately it cured itself. Nothing in the software world is more odious than breaking something that didn't need fixing. Sorry about the rant - this is a really frustrating kind of bug. The United States Federal Communications Commission has re-released their FCC Speed Test app for iPhone and iPad and iPad. It lets you directly measure upload, download, latency, and packet-loss over both cellular and Wi-Fi. You can also choose to anonymously submit information to the FCC about your results through the Measuring Broadband America program which aims to create transparency about actual network performance. FCC Speed Test looks at a couple things when measuring network performance — download, upload, latency, and packet loss. Each time you run a test it'll give you some general information about your cellular network. When testing WiFi networks I didn't g…

Since the end of January it's been technically illegal to unlock the SIM card slot of your phone in the United States. Luckily, a bill passed through the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday with a vote of 295 - 114 that would make it legal again. Though the bill in question would repeal many of the limits placed on phone unlocking, the bill's author would like it to keep bulk mobile phone unlocking companies in the ban. These companies will often buy used handsets, unlock them, and resell them, which wireless carriers don't like so much. This addendum is still under debate, plus we have to wait and see what the Senate will do with it. For those unfamiliar, service …

Last week a bill passed in Arizona that would give businesses the legal right to refuse service to customers based on their sexual orientation. Many companies, including Apple, are now speaking out against the bill and urging Governor Brewer to veto it. Their argument? It's not only legalized discrimination but bad for the Arizona economy. NBC News Apple spokeswoman Kristin Hueget confirmed Monday that the company had reached out to Brewer and urged a veto. Apple is currently readying its sapphire glass facility for production in Mesa, Arizona which is rumored to begin production on components for the iPhone 6 as well as an iWatch. Apple and a slew of big…

GT Advanced Technologies, which is partnering with Apple to produce sapphire in a new Arizona plant, expects production to be in full swing by the second half of this year. In announcing their Q4 2013 earnings, the company said that while earnings for the first half of this year would be lower than usual, they expected them to increase significantly in the second half of this year as they begin to deliver on orders placed by Apple. In preparation for the ramping up of production, GT has been adding staff and building out the plant, and it's expected that the facility will bring a total of 2,000 new jobs. The company's sapphire operation is big, with GT expecting it to acc…

Contacts contain a lot of important information about the people you love, the business connections you need, and the services you rely on. Keeping them safe is important. iCloud does a great job at syncing contacts between the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iCloud.com, but it's not perfect. Sometimes sync goes bad and data gets lost. That's why it's always a good idea to make a manual backup of the contacts on your Mac and keep it someplace safe. Luckily, it's easy to do! How to back up the address book contacts on your Mac Launch the Contacts app on your Mac. Click on File in the menu bar and then Export.... When the menu expands, now click on Contacts Archive.
