Hi, I currently have 2 printers set up locally, a LaserJet and OKI. I have set the LaserJet as default. The OKI paper size needs to be set as 8.5 x 12 inches. I have set paper size in 'devices settings’, Advanced 'printing defaults' and 'preferences' in the general tab. However, when I want to print to the OKI from my application, I select the OKI from the dropdown. Which is correct. If I go into printer properties, advanced the paper size is still either A4 or letter. Unless I change this to the 8.5 x 12 it prints incorrectly. I know this doesn't seem a major issue, but I have a lot of users and I would like to be ab…

I have Win 7 and MSE and I'm satisfied with it as my AntiVirus. (also have a few antimalwares). In my son's new computer there is Win 8. In the beginning he had Free Norton AntiVirus. Now that it will expire I wanted to suggest he downloads MSE, but I am confused because I read that you can't get it with Win 8. I only have one day so it is a little urgent. I read that you can get Win Defender instead, but it's not an antivirus. 1.Is there any way to install MSE in hiswin 8 computer now? Please instruct me about it. 2. I guess I should uninstall Norton first, and I remember uninstalling isn't enough, pls instruct me what to do... 3. And wh…

M/S Essentials picked up this virus today when I did a full scan, the report said this virus was found and has been removed. My e-mail account was hacked last week and I assume this may have been responsible? Has any one come up against this virus before? Exploit: J/S AXpergle.A I downloaded the malware and virus removal tool from M/S this showed all clear and checked the M/W and Virus library also, but this one not listed. I am not sure where to look in my Windows operating systems files where to find this virus. Possibly the registry files? Any help would be welcome regards, Philip21 Continue reading...

Hi everybody , I have a Sony Vaio laptop and I am using Windows 8 Single Language (The Windows is OEM verison). Last night I restored my laptop to the original factory setting, after that I installed AVG free edition 2014 and I had first scan, AVG found a threat and moved it to virus vault and this is link of this threat C:/Windows/SysWOW64/mfc45.dll. The name of the threat detected is "Corrupted executable file". It was strange because I hadn't install any programs after I restored and AVG was the first program I install. So I restored again and I still saw the file mfc45.dll. So what 's wrong? Please tell me how to solve this problem. Continue reading...

Everything you need to know to choose the best phone for you — Galaxy S5 or iPhone 5s! The Galaxy S5 has only just been announced while the iPhone 5s has been available since September 2013. However, until the iPhone 6 launches — presumably in September of 2014 — they'll be the two top phones on the market. They'll also be very different experiences, from hardware to software to services and back. Some people will know immediately which one they want. Others will be pouring over every review, watching every video, sweating every detail, second guessing every decision. If you're one of those, if you're on the fence, I'll keep this short and sweet — if you're stuck betwe…

As soon as the iPhone 5s was released last fall we ripped it apart and took a closer look, specifically at Touch ID. We had a hunch that Touch ID was paired to individual hardware even back then. An updated iOS security document issued by Apple looks to confirm our suspicions: While the iOS security document goes into detail about Secure Enclave, what it is, and how it works, the part we find most interesting is as follows - Each Secure Enclave is provisioned during fabrication with its own UID (Unique ID) that is not accessible to other parts of the system and is not known to Apple. When the device starts up, an ephemeral key is created, tangled with its UID, an…

If you have a new Mac Pro, check Software Update for Mac Pro SMC Firmware Update 2.0, a change to the System Management Controller (SMC) firmware used in your shiny new computer. According to Apple, the new SMC 2.0 update "enables the Mac Pro to enter Power Nap without running the fan for most Power Nap activities, and addresses a rare issue where a low-speed USB device may not be detected at boot." Power Nap is a feature Apple first introduced in Mountain Lion, or OS X 10.8. It enables your Mac to establish a network connection even when it goes to sleep, so you can receive new mail messages, sync content through iCloud, download software updates and more. T…

I have a Dell Inspiron N5040 laptop with Windows 7 Professional Edition installed. I received the laptop new as a gift in 2011, and it didn't give me any problems until the past several months or so. At the recommendation of a friend (the closest to a computer expert I have ever met or spoken to) I have Avast antivirus, Malwarebytes malware protection, and Microsoft Security Essentials. I don't download anything that I don't know exactly where it's coming from (I have my Sims 3 games that I got from Origin but that's it), I don't play games online or participate in any surveys or anything that I was taught would potentially expose me to viruses and spyware. I don't have a…

Just wondering if there is any Linux based email server that is comparable to Microsoft exchange? Just wondering what other peoples thoughts are on the subject? Continue reading...

Kubuntu 12.04 I don't know how to install a program from a .tgz download. I downloaded CrashPlan_3.6.3_Linux.tgz. When I double click on it it opens a folder that has an INSTALL file with this info: To install CrashPlan run the installer in this directory: ./install.sh and follow the instructions. I clicked on /install.sh and a lengthy shell script file opened. I'm not familiar with script/dos/code/programming and I don't understand what to do with that. I hope I can get a simple step-by-step on how-to, and where, to install. Crashplan(free) - Backup for every file. www(dot)code42(dot)com/store/ Continue reading...

Adventure Time fans chewing through the Card Wars campaign will want to check out these hints for flooping their way to domination. Card Wars — Adventure Time allows iPhone and iPad players to enjoy all of the charm of the cartoon show while playing through a high fantasy strategic card game. Players take turns summoning creatures onto one of four territories, attacking with them in a reflex-driven mini-game, and defending against attackers from opposing territories. In between, players cast spells, activate, err, floop creature powers, build structures, and initiate character-specific super powers to take out their foe. It’s a linear single-player game with a level…
