Despite a few re-installations of "Thunderbird" and system reboots, I still keep seeing this message: "Thunderbird is already running, but not responding. To open the new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system". I would hate to reinstall Window 8 again. It could count the 3rd time in a year. Advice appreciated. Continue reading...

I have tried disk cleanup numerous times and I have always checked the boxes for both files, but after I run disk cleanup the debug dump files and system error dump files are still there and are 1.5g of space. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these because 1.5g is a decent amount of space being taken up by worthless junk. Also is there anyway to fix my disk cleanup to remove these files in the future? Continue reading...

I cannot access the Windows 8 Pro 64 bit computer outside of my local network, though I can access inside my local network via the internet to simulate remote access outside the local network. The IP addresses that I use remotely are identical to that used inside the network. I have the default port (3389). I can connect to the other Windows 7 computers remotely using their respective ports, which are not the default port. The firewall is Windows 8, and the anti-virus is Windows' default as well. There is no corruption in the system files. The Netgear router is properly set up for Port Forwarding for this computer at the default port. Continue reading..…

To totally change the format of Windows with the new format of Windows 8, thus making their customers all relearn Windows is not only arrogant, to treat their customers like this, it is an extremely poor business decision. This lack of respect for your customers is setting the stage for a resourceful competitor to step up and take this business. To change the entire format of Windows has disrupted lives, how thoughtless! Really?? Continue reading...

Are file associations in Windows 7 the same for all users, or can they be user-specific and be stored in user profiles? From what I've been able to find, the HKCR subtree that appears to contain the information about file associations is pulled from HKLM\Software and HKCU\Software. If HKCU\Software contains file associations, then maybe they can be user-specific, but if file associations are stored only in the HKLM hive, then I'd expect them to be universal to all users. Hi, I currently have 2 printers set up locally, a LaserJet and OKI. I have set the LaserJet as default. The OKI paper size needs to be set as 8.5 x 12 inches. I have set paper size in 'devices settings’, Advanced 'printing defaults' and 'preferences' in the general tab. However, when I want to print to the OKI from my application, I select the OKI from the dropdown. Which is correct. If I go into printer properties, advanced the paper size is still either A4 or letter. Unless I change this to the 8.5 x 12 it prints incorrectly. I know this doesn't seem a major issue, but I have a lot of users and I would like to be ab…

I have Win 7 and MSE and I'm satisfied with it as my AntiVirus. (also have a few antimalwares). In my son's new computer there is Win 8. In the beginning he had Free Norton AntiVirus. Now that it will expire I wanted to suggest he downloads MSE, but I am confused because I read that you can't get it with Win 8. I only have one day so it is a little urgent. I read that you can get Win Defender instead, but it's not an antivirus. 1.Is there any way to install MSE in hiswin 8 computer now? Please instruct me about it. 2. I guess I should uninstall Norton first, and I remember uninstalling isn't enough, pls instruct me what to do... 3. And wh…

M/S Essentials picked up this virus today when I did a full scan, the report said this virus was found and has been removed. My e-mail account was hacked last week and I assume this may have been responsible? Has any one come up against this virus before? Exploit: J/S AXpergle.A I downloaded the malware and virus removal tool from M/S this showed all clear and checked the M/W and Virus library also, but this one not listed. I am not sure where to look in my Windows operating systems files where to find this virus. Possibly the registry files? Any help would be welcome regards, Philip21 Continue reading...

Hi everybody , I have a Sony Vaio laptop and I am using Windows 8 Single Language (The Windows is OEM verison). Last night I restored my laptop to the original factory setting, after that I installed AVG free edition 2014 and I had first scan, AVG found a threat and moved it to virus vault and this is link of this threat C:/Windows/SysWOW64/mfc45.dll. The name of the threat detected is "Corrupted executable file". It was strange because I hadn't install any programs after I restored and AVG was the first program I install. So I restored again and I still saw the file mfc45.dll. So what 's wrong? Please tell me how to solve this problem. Continue reading...

Everything you need to know to choose the best phone for you — Galaxy S5 or iPhone 5s! The Galaxy S5 has only just been announced while the iPhone 5s has been available since September 2013. However, until the iPhone 6 launches — presumably in September of 2014 — they'll be the two top phones on the market. They'll also be very different experiences, from hardware to software to services and back. Some people will know immediately which one they want. Others will be pouring over every review, watching every video, sweating every detail, second guessing every decision. If you're one of those, if you're on the fence, I'll keep this short and sweet — if you're stuck betwe…

As soon as the iPhone 5s was released last fall we ripped it apart and took a closer look, specifically at Touch ID. We had a hunch that Touch ID was paired to individual hardware even back then. An updated iOS security document issued by Apple looks to confirm our suspicions: While the iOS security document goes into detail about Secure Enclave, what it is, and how it works, the part we find most interesting is as follows - Each Secure Enclave is provisioned during fabrication with its own UID (Unique ID) that is not accessible to other parts of the system and is not known to Apple. When the device starts up, an ephemeral key is created, tangled with its UID, an…
