I have upgraded the forum to the newest version of IPB. There are some new features so make sure to check your user control panel to take full advantage of the new options. I have also removed all the ads for members. Guests will still see the ads. Once you join the ads will disappear. This was done to make your user experience more enjoyable while still allowing the site to be self supporting. I will be adding a donation system in the future if you'd wish to contribute to the site.

I have changed the look of the site. We now have a more modern style that will be easier for users to access all our features and Microsoft discussions. If you prefer to use the old style you can do so by selecting Microsoft Blue from the style dropdown at the bottom left of the page. If you have any comments on the new style start a thread in the Water Cooler forum and I will address your concerns.

Go to http://www.wsusoffline.net/ 2. Click on the pale blue box to go to the download area. Or click on the Download tab at the top of the page. 3. Aft…

As some have noticed site features are being turned off. This is in preparation of a major software upgrade. At this point in the process I am removing all addons. They will not be compatible with the new version. You will see things changing during this process. I expect to be done with the upgrade by the end of the day today. If things don't go as planned then the upgrade will be delayed to after Christmas.

I have been meaning to fix this for a while and finally had the time to get it done. If you have an animated avatar please re-upload it. Doing so will make the animation work in all areas of the site. The old image processor only supported the large avatar image. The new processor keeps the animation for all sizes.

Safe Mode is the famous (or perhaps infamous) method of opening up a limited version of Windows to get around bugs or avoid viruses while troubleshooting problems and finding solutions. Traditionally, you could boot into Safe Mode in Windows by starting up and pressing F8 when the operating system first loads. However, Microsoft‘s latest iteration of Windows doesn’t follow this rule, so let’s go over how to boot into Safe mode in Windows 10. Which safe mode do you want? On Windows 10 there are a few different types of Safe Mode you can choose from, so it’s important to know what they do and which you need. Safe Mode: This is the basic version that strips away al…

To use the new style choose Free PC Help Forum 1.5 Red from the style drop down on the bottom left or simply click this link: http://freepchelp.forum/misc/style?style_id=36 To make it your default style select it in your control panel under options. As you can see I have changed forum software back to vBulletin. Nothing against IPB I just thought this site would benefit from some of the extras that vBulltin has to offer from the addons community. All data has been imported as well as the downloads and links. I will be adding the news page back soon and will also add a blog section for users that want to create their own mini news site with in Free PC Help Forum.Org. If you find any bugs while visiting the site be sure to let me know in the Site Feedback and Suggestions forum. Thanks for your continued support. Bob Schwarz

I have set up a ban filter to disallow registrations from gMail accounts. If you attempt to register with a gMail address you will be denied. If you are currently registered with a gMail account then you will be required to change the email on your next log in. gMail is by far the most used email service by spammers and I am tired of spam bots using gMail email address trying to register. Until Google finds a way to stop these spammers I saw that banning gMail was the only option to stop this. In the last 24 hours there were 4234 attempted user registrations. 3 were by actual users and the rest were by spam bots or spammers. Of those 4234 attempts 4129 were using gM…

There are 2 ways to submit resources to the new resources section of the site. One way is to simply post your article, tutorial or guide in this forum. Once you do staff will move it into the new Free PC Help Forum Resources section. The other way you can submit an article, tutorial or guide is to browse to the Free PC Help Forum Resources section and submit it from there. Doing it either way will work to get your resource added to the Resources section of the site.

When I decided to open Free PC Help Forum I had a plan that included eventually consolidating the other tech sites I owned by importing them into here. I am also going to import my 2 off topic sites into the new Off Topic Forum that I opened alongside this one. My idea was to consolidate all sites into 2. One tech site and one off topic site. Now that I have everything back as it was I am going to start the process of importing the data from the other sites. The sites to be imported are: Computer Support Forums - FreePCHelp.uk Microsoft Forums I will keep you updated to what is happening. The site will be shut off during import. I will keep you updated by leavin…

The server for the site is in Florida. Last weekend we had hurricane Debby pass through. While we weren't directly in the path we were close enough that power was out until yesterday afternoon. Battery backup kept the site up for a few hours as it was designed for. After it went dead we had to wait until the power was restored. I apologize for the downtime.
