  4. Started by AWS,

I have added a couple alternative styles for those people who are like me that don't particularly like blue. The default style will stay the same. I wanted to get the site back as close to original as I could and blue was the color used back then. If you prefer to use one of the alternate styles you can use the style selector on the bottom left of each page. The 2 alternate styes are Free PC Help Forum Alt and Free PC Help Forum Alt Dark.

  5. Started by AWS,

I have been meaning to fix this for a while and finally had the time to get it done. If you have an animated avatar please re-upload it. Doing so will make the animation work in all areas of the site. The old image processor only supported the large avatar image. The new processor keeps the animation for all sizes.

  6. Started by AWS,

I have converted the site back to the software we originally used. The company that made the software we converted from is in shambles and I don't want to be running anything that could be obsolete and unsupported in a few months. There are a few things left to do and when they are done the community will be much better. Some new features are turned on and in the coming days I will be moving the tutorials into the new CMS. This will not happen overnite so please be patient and pardon the dust.

  9. Started by AWS,

The re-birth of FPCHF was derailed for a few days. Since I dusted off the cobwebs on the old servers from when the site first started way back in 2003 one of the drives failed. As it happened it was the drive that had all the data on it. I replaced the drive and the others as well, reinstalled the OS and started the data import. Please bear with me as I upgrade and fix things. I will keep you informed during the process of getting the site in tip top shape.

I saw this on TSF and what an awesome chart. I feel like we should make this a sticky!

  11. Started by AWS,

I have changed the default skin used for the site. The old default had some issues when viewed with a mobile browser. Once I fix them I will make it the default again. If you use that skin as your default it is still available.

  12. Started by AWS,

As previously noted in another thread the move to the domain http://freepchelp.forum is complete. All previous links should re-direct properly. If you notice any broken links let me know so I can fix them. Also the new default style is turned on. The old styles will remain for a short time. The style change goes hand in hand along with re-branding the site. You may be logged out when you first visit on the new domain.

Congratulations, Dougie. I'm glad this has happened.

  14. Started by AWS,

Lighting strike put the site down for the last 20 hours. I had to move all the sites until my ISP can ship me new hardware which was hit with when the strike went through the lines.

The forum and site will be down for maintenance. I'll post the date for this as soon as my upstream provider gets back to me with the new IP information. The downtime should be minimal. This will also affect the IRC server.

  17. Started by AWS,

As you can see I have changed forum software back to vBulletin. Nothing against IPB I just thought this site would benefit from some of the extras that vBulltin has to offer from the addons community. All data has been imported as well as the downloads and links. I will be adding the news page back soon and will also add a blog section for users that want to create their own mini news site with in Free PC Help Forum.Org. If you find any bugs while visiting the site be sure to let me know in the Site Feedback and Suggestions forum. Thanks for your continued support. Bob Schwarz

  18. Started by AWS,

I have upgraded the community to the newest version of IPB software that we use on the site. There are a few things that are different and some things work a bit differently. If you are having any problems the most likely fix is to do a hard browser refresh to clear out the old js and cached files from the old version of software. Logging off and back in will sometimes clear the problems. If after doing a hard refresh and clearing your browser cache you still have problem post in the Site Suggestions forum detailing the problem and I will look into it. I have done this upgrade on a few other sites and so far all problems were because the user did not clear the br…

  19. Started by AWS,

I have upgraded the forum to the newest version of IPB. There are some new features so make sure to check your user control panel to take full advantage of the new options. I have also removed all the ads for members. Guests will still see the ads. Once you join the ads will disappear. This was done to make your user experience more enjoyable while still allowing the site to be self supporting. I will be adding a donation system in the future if you'd wish to contribute to the site.

  20. Started by AWS,

I have been busy working on a couple new sites and haven't spent as much time here as I like. I did make time to upgrade the forum software as well as the design of the site. We now have only 2 styles to choose from. One with a sidebar on the index page and one without. There are other changes and modifications to the backend to make the site run more efficient. I do apologize for my absence and will try to catch up on some of the topics. One final note. I will be looking for staff to help out with the site. I will be looking for moderators and advisers. Keep an eye on the announcements forum for more information in the coming days.

  22. Started by AWS,

Free PC Help Forum is back. Well the name is anyway. I had several computer related sites and last year I imported them all into one database. I opened up Tech Help Forum with that data. Feeling nostalgic this weekend while celebrating the 4TH of July Holiday I decided to bring back Free PC Help Forum. The domain was not being used so I changed the name and re-activated the domain. Welcome to the rebirth of Free PC Help Forum.

DSTM (Dougie) is the newest member of the Free PC Help Forum administration team. Dougie has been a member since the site was first re-opened and had been a member of staff as a Super Moderator. He is also a good friend and great person to know. Congrats Dougie.

  24. Free PC Help Forum staff are trying to come up with a time for the chat session that will accommodate all users. Our members are scattered all across the globe so we are looking to set the time so the members that would normally be in bed can make it. As you know we will use TeamSpeak and have our own TeamSpeak server set up so we don't have to rely on an external provider. To prepare for the Free PC Help Forum official chat or if you want to try out TeamSpeak you can download the TeamSpeak client at: http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads Select the correct version, 32bit or 64bit, for your operating system. There is also a version for IOS and Android if…

  25. Started by AWS,

I am in process of moving the site to another server. I had some problems last week with the server and moved it to a backup server until I could get things troubleshooted and fixed. The problems are now fixed so I will be moving the site off the backup server. Downtime should be minimal. It will depend on how long the IP change takes. If you get a closed sign when visiting the site do a hard refresh of your browser. You might also have to use ipconfig to flush the DNS cache. Files are being copied over now. Once that is complete I will dump the database and move it. After the database is dumped I will close down the site and change the IP in DNS to the other server…
